The Week Of Perpetual Partying
Five Parties In Six Nights Gives Generikat A True Fright
This morning as I finished another blistering round of squats at my weekly weight lifting class, instead of contemplating the current state of agony that my quads and glutes were in, I pondered just how I had got myself into the five parties in six nights situation.
It all began Saturday when I spent all day crafting the sugar skull and flower birthday cake for my dear friend Sam. Later I waltzed into the library in what I like to refer to as my steampunk barmaid costume and proceeded to serve food and assistance to thirty-four people at our library's yearly steampunk fete. My black laced wine colored skirt whirled to and fro all over the 'brare as I refilled tea pots and served as the tea-dueling tiffin master. Yes, tea dueling is a thing, and yes, you should Google it as I am far too fatigued to iterate all six billion rules that accompany that game. It's fun though.
Later, after a whirlwind clean up I sped over to our friend's house and enjoyed a fantastic night of noshing on blood red velvet cake and playing Jackbox.tv games til about midnight with my pals. We are a creative and heathenistic bunch to be sure, and I wasn't sure about how I felt about a phenomenon that I noticed. A lot of the time my pals knew my answers because of my vocabulary usage. Perhaps I have a style?
Sunday was a slight reprieve, Monday was just crazy, and then Party number three happened Tuesday. Tuesday was a sacred day, for it was @scribblingramma's birthday! She deserves nothing but the finest, and I whipped up a triple chocolate fudge, milk chocolate ganache filled, whipped chocolate buttercream frosted cake for her before I went to work. After teaching our youth service's librarian's art class I came home to have a lovely evening experience of peanut chicken, crab rangoon won tons, that chocolate cake, a few rounds of Exploding Kittens, and a passel of even more lovely company to spend it with.
Yesterday, was party number four, a rescheduled dinner party. That shin dig included slow roasted, raised on our farm, pulled pork, homemade mac and cheese, and an applesauce spice cake made with applesauce that I canned myself. To be honest, I really adored the whipped cream cheese frosting that went on the cake, and would have stood around eating that stuff out of the bowl if it wouldn't have been an etiquette faux pas.
Today is the big day though, Halloween. Earlier this month I asked my kiddos, who are fourteen and almost thirteen, if they would like to have a party as they are a little past prime trick or treating age. They both heartily approved the idea, so here in a bit I am to be invaded by no less than fifteen teenagers. The menu is pretty exciting. Homemade pizza rolls, mummy dogs, chips and guacamole, a caramelized Chex mix that has candy corns and pumpkin in it, strange looking punch that includes frozen hand ice cubes, cupcakes, cookies, candy, the list goes on.
Our carport is cleaned out and is going to be transformed into a dance floor after school by a bunch of girls. That same bunch is also going to decorate the cupcakes and cookies. That reminds me, I need to whip up a batch of buttercream after I write this...
There is to be a bonfire, glow stick hide and seek on the back ten acres, an airsoft war, and a bunch of giggling and screaming no doubt. After all that cooking, planning, and partying, I plan to park my carcass in a chair next to the bonfire and chill. My bro is bringing his party speaker and we are going to enjoy an evening of observing the fracas. For some reason I think this party might be the party that tops them all.
Oh wait, @jacobtothe's birthday is this weekend. Never mind, that party will probably be the one of legend. Heh.
Anyway, I hope that you all have a glorious Halloween, and in the spirit of dress up day, here is the only picture I've got of me in my steampunk get up, even Kat's dress up on occasion!
And as most of the time, all of the images in this post were taken on the author's frosting covered and still hasn't recovered iPhone.
Wow!
I don't recall ever having a friend who was a party girl before now. Especially not a weight-lifter party girl...
Kewlllll! :D
And, as usual, the food you seem to be able to "scare up" (<-see what I did there?) for every occasion both looks and sounds incredible! Making me of course wish that I were your neighbor...
But then I would probably not be able to continue on my current path toward weight loss and utter svelteness...
And finally, though lovely in its own right, your portrait somehow just doesn't say "steampunk" to me? Maybe it's just that I'm missing the mirror-length view that would include the lacy, wine-colored, skirt, whirling to and fro... So next time, please do include the video clip? ;)
Quite glad to hear the "whirling to and fro" part, as that strongly implies that someone did not manage to over-tighten the corset... :D
Now I can do naught but wait with bated breath for the report about Jacob's fete... :) If it tops the ones already described, it's bound to be a doozie!
😄😇😉
Ha ha! More like a purveyor of parties rather than a partaker of them! If there was a job description for my position it would be a facilitator of fun. Hmm, that doesn't sound too bad.
Lifting weights is the best. Long ago in high school times I used to lift a lot, and then having a farm required a lot of hefting over the years, but last year I went back to the gym for a weights class and totally dug it. No She-ra powerlifting, just lots of reps and muscle gainz, lol!
I should have put an obligatory j/k jokester thing by my pic. There wasn't one snapped of me in my full costume of a corset, skirt, boots, etc, so I was just being a little glib, many apologies.
And speaking of corset, I absolutely was the one in charge of lace up this year, so I was able to climb up on chairs to hang photo back drops and run around with food like a completely able to breath champ, woo!
Tomorrow I am going to whip up JT a super extra special vegan pie of gloriousness. It might even be healthy enough that you could partake in it:)
Hope all is well with you and the wife in the warm lands of the South, I am envious, it was 5 degrees the other morning...BRR!
So, you're telling me that I won't be seeing you in any of those oiled-up, totally ripped and rippled body-builder poses any time soon? LOL! Wow, there's nothing wrong with a strong woman, but I find those overdone hardbodies rather grotesque...
My upper body exercise for many years has been surfing, though I haven't gotten enough for too long now.
In the pantheon of sporting activities—heck, the pantheon of almost all activities—surfing has held top place for many years. I used to surf something like five days a week, usually on my way to work, but sometimes on the way home as well. That bulked up my chest and arms pretty nicely.
Then I hurt a shoulder doing something really stupid—base running in a softball game at a church men's retreat—and that sidelined me for quite a while. Sad thing is, baseball is way down the list in my sports pantheon; what a waste! I tripped over my own feet and face-planted, and my shoulder hasn't been the same since.
I did get back in the water after that, but in recent years I haven't been working near the beach. The pressures of life, the universe, and everything have kept me out of the water for the most part. );
But hope springs eternal! My not so nefarious grand plan is to build a custom off-the-grid home so close to the ocean I'll be able to walk to the beach every day and get back in surf-shape again, God willing. Just have to wait a bit longer for my ship to come in...
If I were in the neighborhood, I would risk one of your pies any day... Hope the JT party is grand! :D
You have no idea how honored I feel because I have been the recipient of a Cake by Kat. That was the most delicious cake I can remember having eaten. I considered posting about it, but words failed me. I shall simply repost your description. Thank you again for helping me celebrate!
Awe, you are so so welcome! I am so pleased that you enjoyed your birthday cake, you so deserve comestibles for days and days:)
Don't you dare. This weekend is going to be calm and uneventful.
You do know where the party is to be held, right? Heh.
At the Inland Northwest Center for Meditative Calmness, right?
Sure. Just like the opposite of that.
You're just discussing the weather, right? HA HA!
