Interview With a Homeless Guy (Whose Story May Elicit Sympathy AND Judgement)

in #dtube7 years ago

Last fall while filming my documentary about The Wall, a Native American homeless camp in Minneapolis, I met this guy--to whom it may be tempting to feel both sympathy and judgement. Within five minutes, we get to experience this complicated nature of homelessness.

As I offer videos such as this, I continue to work diligently on my documentary. Anticipated premiere date: Sunday, May 19.

Hi there @fedoraonmyhead!

Every man has a story to tell. We shouldnt just judge one just by looking at them or what status in life they may be in.

Its great that you have had the time to interview one homeless people so we get to know their side of the story. Life in general is really toigh. Not all can surpass it successfully, fortunate for those who can. But for some of us who gets behind, the struggle is quite real. The government must really do something about it. This problems has already taken its toll and its increasing too. We cannot blame them if they get to commit little crimes just to survive.

Thanks for sharing your interview.

Yes, I agree. Unfortunately, it seems many governments (local or national) are becoming less capable of helping. Either they aren't proactive or smart or they are corrupt. I sometimes think the best way to help is for us to go around the government and help people in need directly.

You are certainly correct! That is the kind of action that we need in the society. Its sad to know that we cannot depend on our government. Maybe you can also tap other people or institution who share the same affection as you.

May your kind be blessed more!

Thank you for making this interview and share it with us. I think it is extremely important to raise the awareness about homeless people and their background stories.. there are too many biased people out there and nobody is helping people in danger and poverty.

Man his story is heavy. And his statement about the government and society leading people to end in robbery and as murders was horrible and true. The society builds role models and these role models force people to get their money from somewhere else if they don't get a job in their profession. Sad but true in this world.. a public health care and a public minimum income in the USA would help these kind of people and their problems and of course as well the society because their banks/shops are not robbed so much.
This world is sad and absurdly disrespectful

Thanks for sharing!

Peace!

You're very welcome, @tibfox. I tend to think back to decades past when there was less of a social safety net as well as less crime. It seems communities used to take care of themselves more. Of course, they weren't torn apart by hard drugs like they are now, either. So I also appreciate the problem as it is on the ground and the benefits of strategic charity--giving that doesn't just make people dependent, but giving that secures and empowers those in need.

This is a great work you are doing. These are the stories we ignore, sometimes we'd rather not know about them, but that deserve to be told.
I have been commenting in some posts my intention of starting a series of photographic or artistic post tracking some of the homeless in my city.
We have many and every day there is a new one. Some of them are insane, even violent.
We avoid them, but rarely wonder how they got there.
