Surfing on the Celestial Streams of Gemini today

All the Zodiac signs, from Aries right through to Pisces, alternate in a fundamental "theme shift" from yang energy to yin energy as the Sun travels around the circle every year. With your Sun energy, it's pretty obvious -- because that is so distinct, and yet personal.

In actual practice this happens with all the planets as they rotate through the signs, but unless you learn to pay attention to the various interests as they respond to this changing sequence, you may not be aware of much beyond "feeling good" or "feeling unsettled" or "feeling upset," etc.

Theoretically, the Moon should be easier to work with as you watch Astrology's messages arrive ... and intensify ... and dissolve again ... and move on. The Moon changes signs every two and a half days, so this active / passive ---> extroverted / introverted ---> dynamic / receptive rotation should be (and probably is) more pronounced. Except ... the Moon meets so many different aspects as it races (comparatively) around the circle it can be distracting.

For example, there were six (count them!!) Lunar aspects -- alignments with other celestial citizens -- on Monday. And then none whatsoever on Tuesday -- yesterday. Talk about whiplash! Lunar aspects typically set off what we call "moods" ... or attitudes ... or perspectives ... or essentially "how you feel about this, that or the other." So, "on paper" Monday would have had your emotions up, down and all over the place ... while Tuesday left you feeling spaced out, directionless, numb and basically drifting -- with a "going nowhere" feeling in most cases. It's hard to get a grip on anything when the Moon itself is unmoored ... so to speak.

The contrast is not usually that stark ... or that stunning and set up one right after the other. But it does explain why some days are good, some days are awful, and some days you meet yourself coming and going as far as events and emotions are concerned. Now ... add the other nine planets to the mix and, Jiminy Cricket, no wonder life is a circus. When you put it that way, the wonder is that any of us survive the experience. (Oh, wait a minute. I guess we don't. Survive the experience. Technically speaking. Or maybe we do. As the mystics insist.)

But, you know, this isn't actually what I planned to write about today when I sat down and sifted through the various topics I could work with. As it happens, the most recent aspect of the day so far is the Moon in Aries square Mars in Cancer -- which on one level ... the Moon square Mars one ... indicates feeling one way ... but doing something totally different ... something that doesn't line up very well with your plans.

Don't talk to me, ok? Just don't. Sometimes the machinations of Astrology are so in-your-face they're distinctly pure, obvious, endearing, delightful, amusing and annoying all at the same time. And I understand this stuff. I don't know (honest to God, I do not understand) how people can paddle through life like a blind frog caught in a vortex because they have no freaking idea what's going on -- but it happens.

I tell myself, even blind frogs make it through the storm somehow. Or not. But when they do, what did it mean? What did they get out of it? What do they understand better -- or differently? And what kind of life is it to just muck around and wait for the next one to strike with no idea if or when it could happen? Or what that one will mean either ... except as a mess to try to survive? Most people actually do live like this. And that itself is amazing. Srsly.

Still, I'd like to salvage this effort somehow -- and write about what I intended to write about when I sat down. But if I don't, that means I still have a topic I could try again tomorrow ... or later ... or never ... whatever. Or Friday maybe. The Moon is in Taurus then ... and stable ... and more placid -- so I could be in with a chance as @catweasel would say.

The New Moon is coming up in a few days. (No, this isn't the topic I was going to write about either. It's another one. Totally different.) I could get to work on an organized piece on how to handle that -- which gives me another option. Sun / Mercury in Gemini -- which we have now -- like that idea a lot.

So ... in closing ... let's do this: Three things to know about Gemini -- and Gemini energy. At least that gives both of us some take-away points from this session.

  • Gemini energy is outgoing, extroverted, friendly, inventive and versatile. It's yang energy -- masculine, positive, dynamic, outgoing and active. It's also Air energy -- cerebral, innovative, clever, talkative, intellectual and lively. It's also Mutable energy -- flexible, adaptable, changeable, inconstant, "go with the flow / go along to get along" in its outlook. (And people wonder why Geminis are capricious and half-nuts most of the time. Me? I don't wonder at all. That's why I've studied Astrology for the last 50 years -- and why I'm still learning. Honest.)

  • Next point: Gemini is the sign of The Twins -- for a reason. They love to have multiples (at least two -- more if they can get 'em) of everything they find useful. They want to have back-ups, duplicates, plenty of something on hand. It matters less what "it" actually is than the fact Sun in Gemini wants lots of it. One of anything is just never enough.

(I mean, what the heck have you got if something happens to that one thing? What if it breaks? What if it wears out? What if you can't find it? What if somebody steals it? What have you got then? A big fat nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Zip-a-dee-doo-dah. That's what. If you need it at all ... get two. Have another one on hand. Keep it close. You'll use it.)

  • Last point (and then I am outta here:) Gemini loves diversity. It loves variety. It loves to have alternatives and options and choices. It loves to invent and improvise. It loves to do clever things with familiar ingredients. It loves to dabble ... and explore ... and experiment ... and sample stuff. All kinds of stuff. It loves to experience ordinary things ... differently. Which explains a few things about those folks. And it explains a few things about the structure of this post.

Think about it. Srsly.
