Extraction or Extortion : A Trip to the Dentist
On Tuesday i was just removing some food from between my teeth when a huge filling popped out. My heart sunk.. I hate the dentist and i hate paying lol.
I visit my mum every Wednesday so i though I'd call in as i pass the dentist and make an appointment.
The tooth in question is one that I've had a lot of trouble with over the years. One year it stopped me from going to Wembley as a VIP guest as it flared up again and was very painful and swollen. I've been told over the years that it should really be removed. Main reason is that the tooth is dead and infection keeps reoccurring. So i decided to have the tooth out this time. The first time i was advised to have the tooth out the cost would have been £29
So when i called into the dentists they said they had a cancellation if i wanted to wait. After waiting 2 hours to see the dentist and another 10 minutes waiting for the anaesthetic to work . The tooth was popped in 10 seconds.. Not very painful and soon stopped bleeding
Then comes the most painful part... Paying.................. £59 geeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
£59 ($80) for 10 seconds work
Yep i didn't have my tooth extracted i had it extorted.
Funny that, I had my tooth pulled on Tuesday. I hate paying for something that at best is uncomfortable!! Then I ask my self, let's break the price down...
A fully trained dental doctor total time 1/2 hour prep and clean up = £18 (36per hour)
Cost of anesthetic = £20??
Cost of clean up, autoclave reusable instruments etc = £15??
Pay receptionist and dental assistant =£15 (£7.50 X2)
Cost of building maintenance/elec/other over heads = £10??
Ok, so what we up to at them mo- £78.
10 second extraction, you were lucky. I was in the chair for 2 hours after the roots snapped and he had to go digging and break the bone, plus then give stitches.... £59 worth every penny
Your experience sounds pretty nasty. I'm glad my tooth was loose and only needed a straight pull..
Two hours in the chair and stitches errr no thanks
Hopefully we'll both be back to normal in a few weeks.
It wasn't the first tooth I've had pulled (too many fights as a teenager) but this one was brutal. Lol
You know when you see on films the dentist kneeling on the chest and really over dramatically pulling!!??!! Yep that happened. Antibiotics and a week of pain killers.
Regarding the payments, I think we all hate paying. However, I understand your anxiety when it comes to dentists. I think you haven't discovered the dentist that makes you feel comfortable. I go here: https://jeffreygrossdds.com/services/cosmetic-dentistry/ for some years, and I love everyone there. I feel like I'm going through some fantastic procedures. Of course, not all of them are super comfortable, but at least they make me feel calm, so I don't get double stress. And, believe me, after you'll find the best dentist for you you'll love to visit the clinique.
