Today is the perfect day for a perfect day. It is on days like this that I am supremely delighted that most of my days, I consider a perfect day. The sun is shining, the birds are singing and I am free to wander about in Mother Natures backyard. How can this not be perfect??

It's still early here in Washington, DC... but, I think it is a worthy walk to meander down to the Tidal Basin where all the Cherry Blossoms are in bloom. I have a cup of Starbucks in my hand because we will be making our way over to the Jefferson Memorial where I like to take in a little people watching as I start my day. The best place to begin is right here, as I just purchased my coffee and I need to cut through the World War ll Memorial to get there. This is the entrance.
It's still a little early, so a little chilly and not as bright, but, I promise to dial up some sunshine here. The National World War II Memorial is a monument that is dedicated to the Americans who served and to those that supported it from the homefront. My dad wept when he went there for the first time. When he signed up for the Navy, he was only 17 years old. If you know of a relative that served, you can check here to see if their name is in the registry. If it isn't, you can add it.
I like this bridge with the little peeking holes in it. I feel like about five years old as I bend down to get the view from the hole. I spot the Jefferson Memorial from here. That is where we are headed.
We can walk through the trees to get to the path along the Tidal Basin. The blooms are opening up, right before my very eyes and they are glorious. In Japanese culture, they symbolize renewal and the fleeting nature of our lives. The cherry blooms last only a short while and then they fall back to the earth in a shower of blossoms.
People are out wandering about, no matter how early it is. I can come here at 6 am and there will still be people milling about. It is a great place to jog/walk in the morning and it has a path that is off the road. How can you spell perfect?
The season of the cherry blossoms symbolize spring here. Many are taking advantage of the weather this morning.
Finally, we have made our way to the Jefferson Memorial where I frequently will come and sit on the stairs with a cup of coffee. Which I will do now. Scooch over. Make room for me please.

they set my aunts house on fire
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?
i’ve been praying,
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.
later that night
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,
"everywhere"

Oh yes I am glad I am not the only one that can get some enjoyment from people watching. Of course that brings to mins street photography. That is my weakest because I am a bit camera shy of shooting people.

Hehe! I love people watching! They never disappoint, do they? Doesn't have to be funny or they don't have to do handstands. Just being themselves is enough for me. I have gotten the best people shots just by them being themselves.
I only got yelled at one time by a woman in Haiti and other than that, I am discreet and have managed to stay clear of any objections.

I can't believe you have never seen them! I guess I thought they had them in Singapore! Am I wrong? There are plenty of places and you have to go at least once in your life!

Such a perfect day indeed! A lot of people seem to agree as they are there with you on your walk :) That is enjoyable. I love seeing those cherries in bloom. I hope to see one someday. The closest place with a cherry blossom is four hours away from us. Every time we attempted to go there, we always ended up somewhere else lol!
I think that that is so funny! One day, you are going to have to get in that car and just put blinders on and get there to see. That way you can actually say I have been to see the cherry blossoms.

DC is beautiful. If only we could get rid of the lobbyists and those politicians who care more about their donors and other business kickbacks than normal people.
Well I have moved all around the country and was in Texas right before I came to Washington DC. This is my second time living here and I agree with you because in the beginning I8 dreamt and slept politics until I put it on mute and started living my life. Other than that, I love it here.

I really do need to arrange a trip to Washington. The architecture must be amazing to see in the real. I remember being blown away by the scale in London and Rome. It was a great experience for me. One day maybe. Judging from your beautiful shots, I am guessing that Spring is probably the best time to go. Thanks so much for sharing, Denise:)
You really do need to arrange a trip to Washington, DC! The architecture is absolutely incredible and there is no comparison with Rome and London but it is breathtaking all the same and there are lots of those amazing buildings, but not in the same context as what they have over there. The White House, the Capitol building, and one of my favorite structures, mostly because of the inside was the Library of Congress, where I currently hold a library card. LOL
In my humble opinion spring time is when I would want to go because Summer is full of tourists and it's hot and the winter time is cold. Four would be the second option because it's absolutely incredible but that kind of beauty you can have at home.
Spring it is, Pryde! And if you want to catch the cherry blossoms and it's Festival the beginning of April is best.

What a stunningly beautiful tree !!!! I did not have the opportunity to see it with my own eyes, only in the photo. but I do not think that his beauty would make me come there at 6 in the morning !!!! :))))) I was surprised how many people there are already there in the morning. probably it is not accepted to sleep for a long time in your area :)))

People tend to start work early here and quit early. It makes for a wonderful after work life. Many leave at 2 pm and are done for the day. Some later.
I love getting up early and getting my day going! Even when I didn't work, I still got up early. All my life. :)
I love sitting on the stairs, watching people and drinking coffee!
