BEST Christmas movie!!!! [Review]
CHRISTMAS MOVIE??
YES! Every year we go see a movie on Christmas day. This might seem odd to some people, but we celebrate most of our Christmas on Christmas Eve. We have an awesome breakfast on Christmas morning, unwrap any presents that we saved from the night before and by afternoon- we are ready for the Christmas movie!
If you think we are the only family to do this.... you have OBVIOUSLY not been to the theatre on Christmas day! Often, movies will SELL OUT, so get your tickets early and get to the theatre early too! the snack line is OUTRAGEOUS!!
What movie did we see?
Well, we had planned on seeing Welcome to Marwen. I thought it looked like one of those feel good movies where the bad guys get what's coming to them and the underdog triumphs!
Unfortunately, Rotten tomatoes did not agree. I don't normally put a HUGE amount of weight into Rotten Tomatoes- but this was our Christmas movie! I wanted a good one! Rotten Tomatoes happened to favor Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse HIGHLY.
I wasn't really looking forward to the animated Spider-Man movie...I love Marvel but my thoughts were....
Not. another. Spider-Man. movie
Enough is freaking enough already!!!!
Oh boy. Was I wrong!!!!!!
MOVIE Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
RATING 93/100
IT HAD EVERYTHING! First of all, I'm a Marvel girl- through and through!!! (I know I'm gonna hear about this but I just have to say it...DC sucks) Spider-Man is technically Marvel , but since Sony had the rights to Spider-Man, I was never really thrilled with their interpretations. The movies lacked the clever wit that came with all Marvel movies. And don't get me started on Tobey McGuire crying for 68% of the third movie.
But this one??? I don't know who finally told Sony to get their act together but ... wow! This animated Spider-Man is now MY FAVORITE Spider-Man of all time.
Was it predictable? Sure, I called out the ending 15 minutes into the movie- but can't you do that with ALL superhero movies???? (seriously, can't you? I think we all can.)
But it's not about that! It's about HOW you get there! can you make me laugh? jump? squeal? grip my seat? nudge the person beside me with all the inside Marvel stuff that only true fans know....
yes.yes.yes.yes.yes.
Sony delivered all that and more.
Even pulling off a Spider-Pig?!? yes. Because they did it tongue in cheek. It also takes some skill to risk breaking the fourth wall. They do it briefly and expertly.
I always can tell how much I love a movie by how soon I will buy the movie when it's released on DVD. This one will be a pre-order, if that option is available!
PROS: Genuinely funny movie..incredibly clever. seemless tie-ins to other movies in the franchise. The animation was SPECTACULAR.
CONS: There were a FEW tiny things that I needed to take points away. Though there was a 3D version available, we chose to go for the standard experience. Occasionally, the movie was stylized to have a fuzzy 3D look in the background. It was odd. Wasn't sure if it was intentional, but each one of us questioned if we were supposed to be seeing that in 3D at some point.
Yes there were some really predictable scenes, and I expected that, but they could have been thought out a teeny bit more.
The action was moving fast. If you have epilepsy there is actually a warning that it may trigger an episode. REALLY. and it was warranted in some scenes
Overall... Awesome. Totally awesome
And for all you Marvel fans out there... The first and second "credits scenes" were the perfect chuckle!
It still amazes me that people LEAVE during the credits when watching anything Marvel!?!!
Take away??? GO SEE IT!

The kids went and saw this with the grandparents and they all absolutely loved it. I guess I need to see it now too.

I guess I'll have to take my daughter now. She wants to see this one and yes, like you, I thought not another spider man movie.
I really shouldn't be like that, not with a father and a brother both named Peter Parker. Spider Man is kinda a big deal in our family. Lol!
