Is Chipotle Overvalued?

in #food5 years ago (edited)

Chipotle has weathered a number of food safety concerns over the years, with some previously suspecting that they might never fully recover from the past E. coli outbreak that many might remember from a few years ago.

But Chipotle has been doing very well and are now performing better than ever.

Recently, Goldman Sachs indicated that they saw Chipotle as a top restaurant pick.

They expect that the stock could increase by 28 percent or more and following the positive news it's reported that Chipotle rose at least 3 percent.

Right now, Chipotle is their favorite fast-food pick.

They anticipate that by Chipotle focusing on boosting digital sales that it's going to help migrate new customers over, giving them the capacity to grow beyond prior peaks.

But not everyone is as optimistic, especially seeing as they've already climbed back to such a high. Might it currently be a bit overvalued? Or is there still room to grow? What might happen at the sign of any negative news?

Chipotle has been focusing on certain menu tweaks and boosting store-level efficiency, prompting some to believe that the stock will just keep climbing, possibly reaching $1,000 or more soon, from being just over $805 USD now.

Not everyone is convinced that the current price is justified though, as the company still needs to hit certain targets before the price can be justified, but they might surpass expectations. Compared to its peers, many also say it's greatly overvalued. For many, it's just too expensive at current prices and their success on digital sales going forward really is going to have a significant impact on whether or not that price is justified going forward.

Their revenue for Q2 is up more than 13 percent, they are now looking toward expanding delivery options for the chain, and as their CEO B.Niccol claims, they are just getting started. Through improved overall restaurant efficiency and continued efforts at boosting digital sales, they hope to not only justify current prices but see even higher peaks to come soon as a result.

I was getting a burrito from them once, but as they were making it, they pulled out one of the ingredient trays and dripped the warming water all over my burrito. They served it to me anyways. I don't believe that the chefs there have any idea what food safety, or even passion is.

I don't go there anymore.

well that's an unfortunate experience! thankfully I haven't seen anything like that on any of my visits👍😄I also don't think those with a passion for being a chef are going to be looking to start at chiptole? lol ..you don't seem to find passion in many of those low level positions

I started at a Jimmy John's. I don't cook professionally, but if you check my blog, you'll find some recipes. I take cooking pretty seriously and have a lot of fun with it, so my expectations for a cook are only as high as mine are for myself.

If they do it as their job, then they should be matching me, a mere amateur. Anything less, especially when it comes to food safety, the skill of making the food, and the passion in serving it, just isn't good enough for me.

Otherwise I'd just do it myself.
