Yoga Inversion to arm-balance transitions in lotus posesteemCreated with Sketch.

in #fitness7 years ago

Yesterday I posted a sequence similar to the one I'm sharing here but this one is much harder. Instead of having my legs together, this time I'll cross them in lotus pose before going into the arm balances (side crow and crane variations). And I remembered to turn the camera the right way this time so there's not black on the sides of the video.

I didn't think the minor injury in my left knee would allow me to do this for another week or so but I got into lotus sitting on the floor during my practice today so I figured what the heck...Might as well try it. So I did and I was able to do the whole series that I usually do each day that I practice.

I'd rate this at a 9/10 difficulty level for me since I can't even do it without falling 1/4 days that I practice. Sometimes I still fall out of the left side but today I didn't thankfully. I already posted a video of me falling once today...

In case anyone didn't see the one I posted yesterday which is a less difficult version of this, I've provided a link to it below.

Dude, lotus pose is my nemesis. I have great hip flexility and mobility, but my knees and hips have never enjoyed full lotus. I feel anatomy does limit some things, and that's one for me! :) Nice vid. I just posted a new acro shot... I think you'll REALLY love it (planche counter-balance).

Yeah that's an awesome picture man. My wife and I tried the easier version of the planche counter-balance today but she was unsure her back was strong enough so we'll probably wait til we have a spotter.

As far as lotus pose goes...I spent a few years where several days a week I'd just sit in lotus or half lotus just to get used to it and get more flexible. Incorporating it into other poses has been a lot of fun for me. But yeah you gotta be careful with the knees especially!

Wow! How long did it take you to get to that level? And you both were great!

Thank you very much for your kind words. I have been practicing for a little over seven years now. She has been at it for about the same amount of time.

I started learning this transition about a year and a half ago so it took a little over 5 years to get to where I could just barely do it. For the first few months I could only do it on the left side (right leg on my left arm). Flexibility is really the limiting factor for me as it requires the ability to twist my back pretty far. Then doing lotus pose isn't so easy either.

Thanks for checking out the video :)

Nice !! I love seeing all the yogis on Steemit!!
You guys rocked the hand balancing moves!
I want to get my full lotus down! :)

Full lotus seems to be a very sought-after pose for many yogis. I'm fortunate that I have open hips (for a guy). I've also spent a lot of time practicing it too but I do think I've had an easier time learning this pose (lotus) than others.

Yep, I could totally do that. Once. And then I'd be in traction for years.

Something to inspire to great work guys :)
