Reactions and what comes naturally

This was the car the family wanted originally and I decided on something less desirable.

This morning an old man who had just bought a take away coffee in a shopping complex down the road had a pistol shoved in his face. What he did was quite remarkable as he dropped his car keys and turned and just walked away. They took his car and his work laptop which was in the car and that was it. Stuff that is replaceable.

My family sent me a message to warn me as I often go and get coffee from the same place. I was thinking I don't see myself as old or a soft target, but would the robbers be tempted in someone like me. I have been smart in the car I bought and I don't even want it, but it serves a purpose. I bought a Dodge and the only thing going for it is the V6 Penta motor which can outrun most of the cars around me. Looks can be deceiving and I would rather have something much more luxurious and pleasing on the eye, but I just wont. My car wouldn't make it on any sheet of most hijacked cars and I am happy with that. I have had so many cars in the past and used to have a new car every year, company car of course.

I am probably the most vigilant person I know and this has come about from years of having a house as a prime target on the golf course. Even when I was working an all nighter at work I would leave and do 2 patrols during the course of the night. It didn't matter to me that it was over an hour round trip ,but had to make sure the family was safe.I never told them I was doing it, but I felt duty bound and was worried enough to do my patrols. I doubt anyone else would have done it especially walking on a golf course at 2 am in the morning moving between the shadows. Call me nuts ,but that is me and will go out of my way to make sure people I care about are safe.

I have taught myself to be streetwise and will spot things others won't. When I was repping in England and being robbed on average once a week I knew who was around me all the time.Even today if I am walking down the street I will have an eye on everyone around me and spot anything that isn't quite right.

I need to learn to do what this guy did this morning and just drop the keys if they want a dodgy Dodge . The hardest sell would be convincing the insurance company that someone stole it. I need to find another car now and may look out for an old banger delivery van as that is what is needed next for my new company. No luxury vehicles just yet and will have to wait until one day when I am out of this place.

Lol. My daughter calls those vans still today "kiddie catchers."

Looks can be deceiving indeed. A beat up but reliable vehicle is the best combination for many purposes.

Yeah, Id probably pew myself like a little kid if that happened to me. Ive never been in a situation like that to know for sure how I would handle myself.

As much as Id like to think Id be the hero I think Im much more of a fleer than a fighter.

Wow, that is horrible. Glad it wasn't you that got held up. Smart to not have a fancy car like that where you live though. I can't imagine having to live in fear like that every day! You need to move to the States, we have our share of problems, but nothing like that. You just have to pay taxes on all your crypto :)

haha! sir cryptoandcoffee! a dodgy Dodge. That is a smart move for sure.
Convincing the insurance company is very funny too. I know the subject of the post isn't funny though, it's too bad that you have to live there when crime is probably increasing.
