Developing Critical Thinking - Illusion of Control [Animated]
I talked about the illusion of control in the past; this is one of our innate biases. Now I decided to put it in video animated format.
Illusion of control often refers to our tendency to overestimate the control we have on the events that occur in our lives.
You'd think that I'm talking about only one side here, but no. There are situations when we have more control over what happens to us, and yet we underestimate our ability to influence the outcome. In other situations, quite frequently, we have less control than we think we have, and we overestimate it.
One key take-away message is 'awareness'. Learn to identify and appreciate or approximate the degree of control you exert in specific situations. More in the video.
