Greetings! I hope everyone here is doing well and enjoying their life by the Grace of Allah Almighty. Today I'm here to take part in another contest organised by @dexsyluz and the topic is "Does Radioactivity Cause Death". Radioactive elements are very harmful for life and they can cause unlimited deaths. Lets discuss it further in detail.

Does radiation cause death? justify your answer

Yes Radiations can cause death and we have seen it when on 6 and 9 August 1945, USA dropped two atomic bombs on Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. It caused death of nearly 200,000 people. As we know atomic bombs are radioactive and radiations of radioactive elements are very harmful for every creature that they can kill anyone.

But there are some radiations like X-Rays and CT Scan Ionizing radiation caused by X-rays dont cause death usually. But higher doses of nuclear accident or bombs can easily cause deaths. Radiations that comes out of the elements damages our body cells especially the bone marrow and intestines cells. This leads to sickness and people eventually die.

However, as I said above not all radiations cause death. Some people who are exposed to radiations get sick but they can recover themselves with simple medical treatment. Still it is highly recommended to limit exposure to high levels of radiations.

If you were there 40 years ago, what would you want to change so that the Chernobyl accident would not happen?

I was not aware of Chernobyl accident and read it now on Google. If I were there 40 years ago, first thing I would do is better training of the workers at the nuclear power plant. I would teach them the risks of their job more clearly. Secondly, the most important after human life is to improve the design of reactors to make them safer by testing them multiple times. The reason what I read is the reactor had flaws that made that Chernobyl accident happened.

Last thing I would do if I were present 40 years ago is better safety procedures and emergency plans. If there were proper steps to follow in case of problem, the workers might have been able to prevent the explosion or may have limit its effects. Overall, what I would do is the combination of better training, improved technology mean reactor, and stronger safety measures to prevent Chernobyl accident to happen.

Nowadays, how are we exposed to radiation?

If I talk about this time, we are exposed to radiations in various ways. One of the most common way is through medical procedures like X-rays and CT scans. These tests are important as it let doctors see inside of your body to diagnose illness but your body needs to be exposed to radiations. Although these radiations are not harmful but still high dose of them can cause serious health issues.

Another way is through natural sources like sun and rocks. The sun gives off ultraviolet radiations which can cause sunburn and increase risk of skin cancer. Rocks and soil contain small amounts of radiations that we can be exposed to if we are near them.

Third way which is not for everyone or not everyone is exposed to it is man-made sources. Example here is nuclear power plants that produce radiations as part of generating electricity. While these plants have safety measures to minimize exposure but still there is a risk of something can get wrong anytime. These are some of the ways we humans are exposed to radiations in daily life.

¡Holaaa amigo!😊
