Nomad Life - Old Cemetery near a Nevada Mine

in #nomad6 years ago (edited)

After spending the night in an old abandoned mine in Nevada, I came across a cemetery while driving out. I had been wondering just how old the mine was, and figured the headstones would help solve that mystery.

It appears that this mine was active in the first 2 decades of the 1900s, and there's evidence that there were entire families living up here. One of the family plots has around 8 used sites with room for more. It's also interesting to note that there are signs of people still visiting this place to pay their respects to their ancestors.

Thats a cool adventure! Must have been a bit freaky in the night lol.. You slept in the cave?!

The temperature is probably always right in caves!

The caves are a little unsettling, and I'm pretty sure they're used by foxes and coyotes. I opted to sleep in my truck!

Hahaha I was guessing that animals would most likly not be so happy if you were laying in there sleeping!
Wise decision to sleep in the truck ☺ do you have a wild camera, like a motion sensor camera which hunters use?

I don't currently have a trail cam, but it'd definitely be cool to have one!

They are fun! I should get mine sorted out as the sd card stopped working, and put it out to record some nightlife to put on here ☺

"He can all our sorrows heal" sounds like perfect German syntax, maybe it's a hint as to the roots.
Exciting yet peaceful format, I followed <3

I wouldn't have known than about the syntax, thanks for sharing that interesting clue. It looks like the surname Horn was used through western Europe, but may also have Jewish roots.

I am not familiar with the name, you may be right.
It may also be possible that it's a syntax used in other European languages, but it jumped out at me like when an older German tries to speak English using German sentence structure and translating it word by word on the fly.

It's a great reminder for me to look into more languages again, cheers <3

Very cool. Nothing newer than 19-teens or around there?

The latest thing I found was the 1929 grave of Cyrus Horn. I'm guessing he was a long time resident of the mine and probably one of the last to live there.

Wow that is an old cemetary. Death in 1915, wow 1896. 23 yrd old mother who died. It so crazy to think about dying at that age, back then was much more common. Really interesting stuff! Cyrus was 70, thats ancient for back then. I enjoyed the adventure as always.

Yes, it's amazing to have to opportunity to experience such a remote hidden site. I bet Cyrus lived there a long time. It'd be interesting to see his physical condition before he passed. Would tell a lot about the conditions he lived in.
