Tigers are the largest members of the cat family and are renowned for their power and strength.

The Chinese zodiac features 12 animals in the sequence of Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig.In the West, the twelve creatures of the Chinese zodiac have become increasingly familiar.

Tiger is the third symbol of the Twelve Animals in China.

虎代表着勇敢和无畏、威严和权势，还有祈福和辟邪的作用。在中国传说中，虎是极其有力量和正义的动物，能够驱除家庭的三大灾难：火灾、失窃和邪恶。所以有些家庭会在家里挂虎画并且正对大门让恶魔不敢进入侵犯。当今的中国，也有儿童戴着虎头帽、穿着虎头鞋用以驱邪，还有的人睡虎头枕以使自己更加强壮。中国人都图一个吉利，于是虎符、虎形旗成了镇摄敌手之物，而百姓历来就愿意用虎画、虎脸、虎门神等祈福避邪。

虎为十二生肖之一，排行第三，称为寅。自古以来，我国的老虎就有“万兽之王”的美誉，虎在我国是巨大力量、活力、勇敢和权威的象征。所以会“一山不容二虎”。虎一直受到汉民族的崇拜，崇虎的文化意识，已成为中华民族的共同的文化观念。
