How to Secure your Online Account

in #untalented6 years ago (edited)

Account security is the primary task of all online users. It consist of a username or password. But what if someone knows your password and username or in case you forgot to logout your account in the internet cafe? Maybe some of you experience this scenario and having a problem in bringing back your account.

Today, I will discuss some tips and techniques to secured your online account. But first, let's identify how did you lost your account. There are several actions that you actually ignored in terms of account security, and here are some of it.

USERNAME AND PASSWORD

In creating your account, most users are making a big mistake in this part. When they create an account, they will just memorize the password and continue to what they want to do. This is the basic of securing your account. Password is something that no one should know even your partner. Password must be longer and unique and consist of combination of letters, numbers and special character. One more thing in creating password is DO NOT USE SAME PASSWORD FROM YOUR OTHER ONLINE ACCOUNT. Phishing are everywhere and you can't do anything to stop it.

Most of the time, users used only one password in all their online accounts which is not advisable to anyone. Some website makers do not use encryption in registering the user's password info in their back end program. That's why some of the developers of that website can possibly use your account to attempt if they can open it specially the email. Email is the most secured online account in the world and I recommend GMAIL.

Your email account will be the source of all your other account. So phishing site will try everything they got from you to access your email account. Make sure that you have a long password. Do not use a password that commonly found in your profile.

FORGOT TO LOGOUT

One time I went to a computer shop and open the facebook website. I was surprise that someone forgot to logout their account. If I'm a bastard, I will gain the advantage for this.

Some users are irresponsible for their account. They think that it's ok to leave their accounts un-logout on the internet cafe. Take note, there are hundreds of possible users that can open your account and what if that user is an idiotic bastard? What will happen to your account? So I advised everyone to always logout your account.

Even in mobile, most of us were very relax and dont have a problem in logging in and out. The BIG problem will come out once your cellphone is lost. I've encounter this problem when someone ask me on how to recover her Gmail account. Her phone was stolen and change the password of some of her accounts. She has now a problem coz she forgot to logout her facebook, Gmail and twitter account. The phone snatcher was using her account. This is very alarming situation. No one wants to use their account by other people. For me, it's very annoying. So I recommend to logout your account even on phone when you're not using it.

MAKING A NOTE

I'll always have a note for all my online accounts. I write all my username and password on that note so when time comes that I forgot my password or username, I'll just get my note and look for the password. Is that simple? Sometime, you cannot recall your password and username.

So you will just click forgot password and change your password at all. Not all sites accept same old password and you are mandated to try another password. This is the main problem to anyone who don't write their password on a notes. When they forgot, they change it and forgot again coz sometimes they can't remember what they entered. So I recommend to use a note. It will just cost $0.3 to have it.

THE KEYLOGGER

This is one of the most common things that some internet cafe has. Key logger is a big trait for every user. The function of key logger is to register all the keys you press, tracing for a username and password. It was recorded into some sort of unkown database. So take note, before you use a computer in the computer shop, make sure it doesn't have a key logger.

2ND AUTHENTICATION PASSWORD

This is the 2nd layer of security for every account. If you are having a very long password and it's very difficult to guess or hack, don't be confident. Some hackers were using advance password hacking. It's not just a phishing one. Hacking can be done by bypassing some security feature of the site. Some of them used the mysql injector where they can execute codes in the input password and username. Others are using ddos and the great one is using some sort of hacking tools to penetrate your READ ACCESS MEMORY. This is the latest in tools in hacking. Before, they only hack files from your hard drive. Then the security feature of the computer became more aggressive. That' s why the hackers also become aggressive, they target a computer ram where all your process are hidden. They convert those process in your RAM to get all your info including your password.

In these part, all you need is a 2nd authenticator. The 2nd Authenticator is your final account security. When someone know your password, and have access to your account, the 2nd Authenticator is needed to fully access your account. It has different kind of this. One is EMAIL AUTHENTICATOR which send a code to your email and use that code to access your account. The second one is the Google authenticator, the very secure type of authenticator. This allows you to generate different kind of codes that change from time to time. It is consist of 6digit number. I recommend Google authenticator if the site has that feature.

Next one is the gadget authenticator where it allows you to access your account by just tapping the button in your device and lastly the mobile phone number verification where when someone access your account with correct username and password, a 2nd password which is the authenticator will sent codes to your phone and use it on the 2nd password needed.

SOME TIPS IN SECURING ACCOUNT

  1. Write your username and password in small notes.
  2. Make your password difficult to guest.
  3. Use authenticator for 2nd layer security
  4. Avoid key logger
  5. Be responsible to your account
  6. Do not give your password to anyone
  7. Always change password monthly or every quarter of the year
  8. Protect your email.

This are the things I can share and all of this is base on what I learned and experienced. Hope that this information helped you in securing your account
