Steemit: Five tips to improve your Steemit experience

in #steemit6 years ago (edited)

Wow! Steemland is buzzing right now that is for sure!

Welcome to the party if you've recently joined! (And hello again if you come here often :D )

Don't worry, there is lots to figure out in the beginning, and this learning never ends, but we have plenty of people around who enjoy helping and trying to steer you the right way.

This blog contains a few tips that have helped me a lot, and I'm still using them today.

I would suggest the post is aimed at newer users, but perhaps there is something of value for the more seasoned Steemians too. Cheers!

1. Curate a power users' post/s

It quickly becomes clear that, unless you are a whale or a key community figure, gaining visibility on your excellent proof of brain is tough going, and working for 4/5 hours on a post and watching it sink to the depths is deflating to say the list.

Something I've found has worked is to go visit a larger accounts post in the same category as your hopefully excellent post and get involved in the discussions there. A lot of these larger accounts don't have the time or energy to reply to all, and you can find some interesting responses in these blogs that do deserve a reply.

Curating this blog will raise your profile with the blog owner, who if your replies (yes I suggest 3/4/5 replies to the best comments) and up-votes are well placed (try to scale them in order of quality), may come and take a look at what you are about. If you've got some recent work on show on similar subjects, magic can happen!

The additional bonus for them is that you've (hopefully!) moved the good replies up to the top, above the 'nice posts' and completely irrelevant text.

Also, the initial respondents to the 'power post' are likely to appreciate the fact someone showed interest, and they may come and check your profile out too.

2. Use GINAbot

Huh? What's that then? Well, for those who don't know already (and many do and are delighted with 'her'), this is a notification service within the popular chat application Discord.

You'll need to sign up to activate account here: https://discord.gg/hHsRm8D

The registration command is ..reg your_username_without_the_@ e.g. ..reg abh12345

There are a couple more steps which are straight forward enough, and after that you are ready to configure 'Gina' to notify you when things of importance to you happen.

My favourite features are a Re-steem notifications and the notification when an account you have added has published a new post.

You can also choose to be notified when you are mentioned in a post or a comment.

Working with these notifications can improve the timing of your engagement and interactions, as well as bringing potential users of interest to you.

The folks re-steeming your post have to be worth a look, right? Gina will even tell you when they registered, and how many followers your post is going out to, nice!

As an extra bonus for those who like notifications and possess an iPhone, check out the @blockbrothers blog for information on Steemify, an app very similar to Gina for when you are on the move!

Cheers @reko for the image :)

3. Bid-bot addiction? Watch the Bot-tracker

If you are planning to pay for a vote, I very much recommend using @yabatmatt's Bottracker site. The number of times I see these Bot being over-subscribed and 'overpaid' is far too many for it to be just bad luck!

Get your vote in early and check the 'details' tab for the R.O.I percentage - It is possible to make a small profit and promote your post at the same time!

4. Utilize steemworld.org

https://steemworld.org/ is my personal favourite among many applications that provide a window into what is happening on the Steem Blockchain with regards to an individuals account.

I like Steemworld firstly because of the features but also because of the design - It just makes sense and is easy to gain an understanding of.

Features include but are very much not limited to:

  • Your vote power %: Best check you've not been over-voting all this excellent content!
  • What your vote is worth in $ at various vote weights
  • How you are doing with curation rewards (day/week/month/all)
  • Followers, Following, Delegations, and lots more!

My favorite feature is the almost real time display of incoming/outgoing messages and votes. You can even get a preview of these messages and decide if you then think it's worth checking them out in full.

Also pretty cool is the pie chart showing the votes that constitute the value of your post.

Super useful application, thanks @steemchiller!

5. Interact and interact some more

To finish, something which has a bigger impact that you might think. Commenting is a great way to boost visibility for you, but also for Steemit and its presence in the search results on the likes of Google.

Each verbose comment, filled with keywords and and relevant subject matter, helps boost the posts value in the eyes of the search crawlers. The score of the post will become higher, the more quality replies are given and this will raise the blog in the search rankings = more visitors and potential Steemians!

Growth of the platform is key as we move into 2018, and you can help both your own profile, and the profile of Steemit/busy.org/etc by replying and therefore boosting the content within a post. Great!

Ok, just 5, hopefully useful tips to help improve your experience here - I really hope you find some of the above information as valuable as I do.

Any questions, you know what to do!

Have an awesome day!

Cheers!

Asher

I have heard about the ginabot here and there on steemit and in the Discord groups, but no one ever really explained it. THANK YOU for doing that so easily in this post!

I LOVE the steemworld.org site! It has EVERYTHING my li'l heart desires to want to know about my account. I love how it's in real-time too!

My pleasure!

I find GINA is great company and along with Steemworld I have pretty much all i need for eyes and ears to the Steem blockchain!

Thank you!

I will be checking out the Discord ginabot today. I may actually have a few minutes of free time... oh wait! NO, that's my clone.. she's sooooo dang lazy!

That's pretty cool to know thanks for the tips by the way :)
have a nice day..

Thanks for the information. I'm a newbie and I've been told even before read this post to visit the blogs of these whales to drop reasonable comments. I visited the blogs of some of these whales and most of them hardly post anything to comment on. The don't seem like they're active anymore on steemit. Most of their posts are old and I really don't know if commenting on an old post would create any relevance or visibility.

Hey

Although a reply can spark interest on an old post, it's much better to go with the currently active members.

In my post i use the term 'power user' because a dolphin or orca can still drop a nice vote on a comment - especially at current market prices.

Some members are more active in curating their blogs than others for sure, but their will be some 'good' ones in each category - if there isn't then tell me which category it is and I may start writing posts for it! :D

So yeah, maybe look for dolphins and orcas?

Cheers!

Thanks a lot, this was really helpful 😊

I mean, 3 USD ain't so bad for 5 minutes 'work' is it? :)

You know the tips will go a long way in helping me, most times I feel I work too hard without the desired results, thank you for this Asher

I hope they do. The 1st and 5th are really key I think. You don't need bots, GINA is a good one though, and for visibility to the blockchain, Steemworld is a good one. Good luck!

Thank you so much for this though I'm elated

wow, this is some great looking stuff, most i've never heard of before / great tips / resteemed (-:

Oh thank you! Glad to help. There are a lot of new accounts lately and not many 'help' posts that i've seen (last summer there were 100's flying around!) so i thought i'd try to find the most useful bits I learned and use daily!

So true, it's chaotic to figure out what's going on... but that's part of the adventure too (-:

yes i think also hope that.

Very wise advice from you, without a doubt I want to learn from those who have already opened a way for us new ones to pass. Surely they will serve me for my future stay in this community. I would like to do some internships with you. Haha, thank you, a hug.
I will analyze each tips in detail.

Makes sense, I just submerged myself for the past 8 months so you would hope i have something useful to share!

Thanks for your comments :D

That's right, I have barely a month and a half. It is good to have people who help us grow, greetings my friend.

Hello @abh12345

Thanks for these wonderful tips. They are of great help. It breaks heart to keep searching for how to go about it in this community and not finding a way out. Some of those that have gone steps ahead prefer to conceal information that will help the minnows. But with these tips many will definitely find it useful.

Am re-steeming this right away.
Thanks so much.

Regards @funkylove

My pleasure!

I see this as sharing to help people stay onboard, so that they can grow in and in the future perhaps return the favor to me or to others.

Thanks for the RS and comments!

Hey Asher Thanks for sharing some very useful tips. I will must keep them in my mind. I personally like No 03: @yabatmatt's Bottracker site. This is a new thing for me. thanks for the share. Please carry on your good work and Stay Blessed @abh12345!

It's an essential tool for bot users! I'm glad I found something for you :)

You're one of the few people on steemit who are unique and generous @abh12345. Thanks for connecting me. Stay Blessed!

I just started using steemify today. It's a genius piece of kit! Having it on a separate device from my laptop means I don't miss stuff when I'm in the middle of working on a post or writing or analysing.

I'm scared i'll never get any downtime if I install it!

With your engagement levels it may also burn out your phone!

haha :D

I'll take that as a compliment and pray my aging phone holds out!

That #1 is very smart... :)

I love Steemworld and my Steemifications, too!
Thank you!

#1 is my favourite :)

I'm still thinking about the phone app, but I'm worried I'd be glued to electrical stuff 24/7 then, as apposed to 20/7 at present!

He he, well I switched most of the notifications off - I only get notified when someone comments or mentions me now. Not for every single vote anymore (which was fun in the beginning :))

Yes I can see the vote notification become intrusive very quickly! I bet @exyle doesn't have that turned on! :D

Glad you're still around @abh12345! I remember reading some of your early guides. I'm back on Steemit after an unforseen break and diving into this + your older writings.

~ Kevin

Great! Welcome back!

I hope you get stuck in, not much has changed, oh except that price!
