Steemit: The Curation Leagues - Prizes available!
Hi all
This week is complete and as usual, I have 10 Steem in prizes to give away. Stuff that it's Christmas, lets give some SBDs away as well :)
Starting this week I'll be running two leagues in the same post, lets see how that goes!
Enter this weeks' leagues for a chance to win some crypto by showing your interest in the comments section below.
On your marks, get set, curate!
Introduction
My general opinion on maximizing curation rewards is:
Voting in the first minute will earn you a curation reward of almost 0.000
Voting between 1 and 29 minutes will earn an increasing % of the curation rewards split, this value peaking at 30 minutes and remaining the same from this point onwards
The goal is to get in prior to the big hitters, but not too early!
It is commonly suggested that 20-25 minutes is the 'best' time to vote (especially on known power-authors posts because they are likely to have more auto-votes coming in at these times - and you want to be ahead of these votes)
A vote of equal weight and equal Steem Power at 30 minutes will give more reward than a vote at, for example 1 hour - first come first served, but don't arrive to early :)
Voting on good dtube content and utopian-io approved contributions (prior to vote by @dtube / @utopian-io can earn some very good curation reards
As you can see, a combination of many variables such as Steem Power, voting strength, voting weight, and time of vote, (and more) all play a part in the amount of rewards received.
My general opinion on maximizing engagement is:
- Spread your vote, write lots of long comments
The data for league 1
The raw data has been collected from SteemSQL - @arcange's MS SQL Server copy of the Steem Blockchain.
The key formula used for 'quality of financial curation skill' is:
Curation Rewards DIVIDED BY Steem Power MULTIPLIED BY 1000
This will return the amount of Curation rewards gained per 1000 Steem Power held
Before I present the table (which has entrants from the previous Blogs and those who wished to be added by making themselves known in last week's comments), this is the criteria needed to be fulfilled to have a chance of appearing in this League:
Must have voted at least once on a piece of content in the past 7 days
Must not have leased or delegated Steem Power in the last 15 days
Must not have Started a Power Down (Withdrawl of Steem Power) in the last 15 days
The 2nd and 3rd points above are required to reduce distortion of the figures. And, as curation rewards for the past week are actually taken from votes made up to 14 days ago, we need a 15 day window as mentioned in these points.

The end column is what I think is a genuine indicator of how well you are financially working the curation game with the tools, including vested Steem Power, that you have at your disposal.
Chart and Analysis
Amount of SP earned per 1000 Steem Power owned
Might need to zoom in this week - sorry!
This weeks' results:
@miniature-tiger has done it again! Awesome stuff, 2.5 Steem for you this week!
@biophil a close 2nd and @buggedout in 3rd will be receiving 1.25 Steem - great efforts too!
- The average curation reward/Steem Power this week is 1.438, slightly down on last week which was 1.456 SP.
Community Curation Excellence - League 2
This new league is not based around rewards and relates to engagement.
Everyone currently on my master list has a chance here - delegation dealings or not.
I've used some metrics (made up some numbers) that are related to:
- Comments (number and amount of text)
- Up-votes to others
- Up-votes to unique others
- Self-votes (a minus score for this one!)

Thanks for reading today and a Happy New Year to all!
Asher @abh12345
awesome addition this week to the league, love it.
Thank you Paula, I think I'll be continuing with both lists :)
Happy new year!
W00t top 10 on both lists! :) Love these posts Asher. Resteemed
Thank you! Great job on 'earning' whilst 'gifting', that is a great effort!
Best wishes to you and yours for the new year!
Oh... I'm losing positions :-(
... but I discovered new Steemians :-)
Have a great 2018!
I'm glad you see new Steemians on the lists!
Same to you for the new year which we call 2018! :)
This sounds really cool, and I would love be a part.
I've been reading like crazy about the curation awards especially when I was waiting for an account to be created. I was really hoping to dive in and find the great content, but it seems that a lot of the trending posts are low quality ones that people have self-upvoted. But how to change that? Is investing a lot of money the only way?
I think this problem will likely start to go away as we introduce better ways for people to see personally curated content. Unless you have a lot of followers, it is hard for your post to gain any traction. I am working on a feed that would show you posts that were upvoted by people you follow. So far it's been a lot better at finding good content than any other of the built in feeds. I just posted about my proof-of-concept here.
Any ideas would be appreciated!
Great, I have added you to the list for next week.
Honestly, you are going to have to go some to ever reach the consisent reward sizes that you see on trending.
However, it is very possible to do well in writing about the things you love - this will be seen at some point and will be a nice surprise when it does!
Thanks for the answer!
I understand that it's next to impossible to earn good rewards without investing a lot and having a big network. And once you have that, then quality will be rewarded.
It was actually more a question of finding the good posts through other peoples curation, I remember before joining steemit officially that I was finding a lot of truly informative steemit posts through google searches.
But now when I'm browsing the trending and hot pages there aren't that many posts that seem to be there because of good curation efforts. And I'm hoping that will be changing steady but surely. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to answer.
That's really interesting to hear that you found the more 'informative' posts on google rather than on here :)
That's a good indication of the state of affairs if ever there was one!
It is possible to 'aim' your post for google, using h1 tags and key words in the title etc.
Hot and trending does = biggest SP balance for the most part though, sadly.
Cheers.
I look on duckduckgo for my posts when I need them. Much easier than anywhere on steemit. I have to wait a few days and not all of them make it.
Tell me more about this duckduckgo you speak of?!
It's another search engine - a little less intrusive than google/ I like and less mining of my data maybe :)
I'd like to take part. Can you add me?
Yes i can, welcome! :D
Late to the party but I'd like to see where I'm at in this. I try to do mostly curating with some time spent looking for newbies and some time spent tracking my followers and followingers....(new word?) I do upvote myself some to move up the board but I will try to refrain from that....
Signed,
Another one of your thousands of followers....:-)
Hey
No problem, you are on the list for next weekend. 'Followingers', could be a new one!
http://steemit.deadfollowers.info/ - Never as good as it looks but I can't complain. I only had 1 follower last march....
i so love this..i want to be a part of it.
no problem, added for next week!
I totally missed this and just saw it! Thank you so much!! I am so happy that I made so high up on the list!!
Thank you!
My pleasure, well done! :D
Ah, top 4... Not bad... thanks for these stats :)
A great effort, and no problem, same again next weekend :D
Wow ! I hope I am not too late for this ! :D
Getting in the league looks somewhat impossible for me, I guess :D
Added for the weekend league post!
Thank you :)
