Why Would A Whale Upvote Someone He/She Never Interacted With

in #zappl7 years ago

This is a followup to my post "In Defense Of Whale....". People complain about the whales not upvoting their stuff when they are new. My question is why would they? Sure they might something interesting. But if you arent interacting..

Makes sense. I think its much more realistic to connect with people on your own level who arent so well established in groups. Group together with them and grow until you can add something new.

Exactly agree completely

I had a friend who the other day who brought up this exact issue the other day. She had mentioned that she lost her 'mojo' to post on Steemit recently as she has not had any Whales up-vote her content. My response was exactly what you mention above. Why should they? If you don't provide interesting content on a regular basis, what should attract them to your profile. Typical short term thinkers.

Not sure if you've had chance to read my latest post @taskmaster4450 but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Agree with you @taskmaster4450 . There is a lot of ppl on Steemit who do a lot of crybaby whining. If some Steemians spent as much time creating and curating as they did whining they would be stacking Steem in no time.
You also have the people who beg on here for SBD and those that think its a get rich quick opportunity.

Everything is money

I think it’s more that the big whales rarely interact, so they have most of the cash but are not putting it into the ecosystem, so to speak. Much like real life!

They built the ecosystem..

How? They were in early and were competing for rewards at a time when it was easy to get rewards and are now not up voting even though it would not affect their steem or steem power. I’m not hating on them, it’s just the obvious problem with Steemit, charts can show that...

Yeah, whales have every right to vote on who they want to vote on. Including people that helped them to get to where they are! So that's why wales often upvote each other...

Thanks to all of you for an eye-opening set of comments.
If we start with the understanding that at the core Steemit is just another informal society where people go to rub shoulders and share what they find interesting, I don't see how there could be anything wrong with the dominance of the Whales and the wish on the part of the 'rest of us' to celebrate their success in creating this helpful informal society.

There's just one problem. The mantra that is fed to those of us outside of the Society is this: "Come over to Steemit and create good content and you will be appropriately paid for quality of your output".

There is, of course, an issue as to how we define "good content". At the same time, however, there is a very wide class of professional specialists whose work involves communications and for whom this mantra is a setup for a deep 'let-down' when we start to putting our works into Steemit.

Fortunately for all parties, across many of these professional specialties people are accustomed to producing high-quality stuff and getting paid zero for a particular item X (they just paid for get paid for growing their professional reputations). So, once we get over the disappointment we just ‘go back to playing the games we already know well’.
