You hit the nail on the head. We have a responsibility as the community in order for steemit to work - and I really do wish we succeed. This is a completely community driven and run social media platform and I will not be that surprised when a few years from now it is truly accepted by the mainstream. I suspect when that happens you will come here for your dose of daily news instead of visiting your favourite news site and reward the journalist with your upvote if it is deserving. A truly organic experience with no centralised control or censorship and it will be fantastic for this to make it big. It isn't about trying to make money although as early adopters that will probably happen anyway. It is about providing genuine value with great quality content. Like this post right here.
