RE: Got Demonetized By YouTube...... But I'm OK With It

in #youtube5 years ago (edited)

I'm not OK with YouTube's whole approach on this. How's it the content uploader gets a strike that's based on if the copyright holder wants to monitize or not? Some people lose their whole channel because what was OK yesterday is NOT OK today due to some copyright holder changing their mind. Meanwhile YouTube, who is the one actually taking the uploads and distributing the content gets off scott free on it? bah.. #youtubesux

Even worse is some companies selectively enforcing their copyright or trademark. Lionsgate apparently will let your content stay up if you make positive videos about their movies, if you make critical content of their videos they'll take your ad revenue and report your video.

I'm no expert in the world of trademarks and copyright but I was under the impression if your going to enforce it you have to enforce it across the board and if you don't it could take away your ability to enforce it.

Here's a guys video on the topic

Trademarks you have to enforce, copyright you can pick and choose I think. This is still sleazy though! Game industry often does the same thing (uses DMCA to take down videos reviewing their games in a bad light).
