YouAreHOPE for the Philippines

Anyone who has ever been there knows that the Philippines are beautiful.

From the terraces of Sagada,

through the waterfalls of Surigao

to the beaches of Sorsogon,

But the fact is, behind the stunning vistas and under the country’s beautiful forest canopies, there are a large number of malnourished, starving children.

According to the 2017 End of Childhood Report, over thirty percent of Filipino children are affected by stunted growth before the age of five due to Severe Malnourishment.

This number correlates with the Social Weather Stations Second Quarter 2017 study that found thirty-two percent of Filipino families self-reported being “food poor.”

That self reporting was a response to this survey:

Based on the type of food eaten by your family, where would you place your family on this card?

A showcard with the choices HINDI MAHIRAP (Not poor), SA LINYA (On the line), or MAHIRAP (Poor) was shown to the respondents and they are asked to select the option they felt most fit their situations.

The overwhelming study results conclusively demonstrated that there are so many Filipino families reporting that they are food-poor, and so many children under the age of five showing signs of severe malnourishment, that for families in the Philippines, severe hunger is a crisis which needs immediate attention.

YouAreHOPE recognizes this need and is ready to enlist the help of our network of caring individuals to lend aide to the efforts of others to get the right food to these families to make sure that:

1. No child is malnourished.
2. No family is food poor.
