Remember the Y2K Panic?
I remember the fear and paranoia of technological collapse in the twilight days of 1999. Do you? What was there to it? What really happened? LGR has a nice overview of the issue. Payout declined due to just sharing a video link.
I remember! That was great fun! For a couple of years leading up to it.
Just in case, from an hour or so before midnight on December 31, 1999 to an hour or so after midnight on January 1, 2000, I sat outdoors by a campfire, in buckskin clothes, with my black powder rifle at my side. No, I didn't think anything would happen, but that's how I wanted to begin the year 2000 anyway.
I still wish "civilization" had collapsed that night. That was about the time my life went down the poopchute, though.
I did a simple test on some pc's back in 1999 , i turned there date to 2000 already showing it is just a date and the counter goes to 9999 at least . Some friends made lots of money " making pc's yk2 proof " by doing absolutely nothing ;-)

Some of my prepper supplies (e.g. gasoline powered electric generator) are still around the homestead, and have actually come in quite handy since then. Nothing wrong with a bit of prep, especially whenever guv'mnt is anywhere around...

Yeah, nothing wrong with having backup power, water, food, and tools squirreled away. Zombie apocalypse or nuclear armageddon are unlikely, but power outages, unemployment, and the like are common enough occurrences.
Not to mention state-sanctioned terror...
Oh, come on. Our benevolent overlords would never harm us in any way, because they serve and represent us. All we need to do is whatever they command, and we will be safe and prosperous.
And the tooth fairy will come and save us all... ;)
That was extremely interesting. I was too busy raising and homeschooling children to waste much time worrying about Y2K, but I was well aware that other people were quite worked up about it.

That was the time I used to work as a programmer and everyone was unsure what will happen after new year day. Those were ... "funny" times :)
