It is hard to tell from the silhouette in this photo (high-speed objects distort in photos), but looking at the staggered 8-gun armament and the pitot tube on the left wing, I think this is a P47.
I sent a message to a WWII reactor friend of mine he's an expert on planes once I get confirmation I will add an edit to the post. But I think you're absolutely right.
