Day 667: 5 Minute Freewrite: Sunday - Prompt: running water

in #writting5 years ago

After attending the Good Neighbors Fellowship with his cousin Captain Hamilton in Tinyville, Captain H.F. Lee of the police force of Big Loft, VA attended his favorite kind of worship: outdoors in nature.

He was not deterred by a rainy day, even of a great summer downpour; his truck was all-terrain and his umbrella a massive 58 inches around.

His ears provided him a constant stream of reasons to be in awe of his Creator... the percussion section of a thousand tiny drums of rain, progressing through all the keys and timbres as the rain hit different surfaces, and the sound of running water across different landscapes even after the rain had stopped... the soft shimmering sound of water flowing broadly over smooth pavement, the laughing rush over narrower, uneven surfaces, the roar of the Roanoke River, its deep-throated voice made deeper temporarily by the great flow of water.

It was too wet to kneel, but in his soul, the police captain bowed down...

“Ah, Lord God, all these things Your hand has made … I worship You, the Almighty, from Whom all blessings flow in a never-failing stream … I praise You for your grace and mercy upon me, and I thank You for the beauty of this time with You as You reassure me with the evidence of Your power and provision for all things … I know that You can do all things, and that You will guide and provide for me even in these troubled times -- thank You … thank You …”

He has the good spirit to go on plus crime is there, everywhere and does not care about rain or mud either.

Oh, Captain Lee had has a TERRIBLE time in this last month ... whole bunch of police commissioners turned bad and paid for the error of their ways before a sixth survived to do better ... whole domestic terrorist event to put down with Captain Hamilton his cousin over in Tinyville ... plus an entire tragic past ... he is hurting, bad ... what helps keep him going is the time alone with God, away from the forms and fashions of regular Southern church that don't do much for him. A good rainstorm will give you that alone time in nature, even in the midst of a big city ... a big umbrella and good shoes, and you are set ...

What a lovely prayer, @deeanndmathews. Glad to see you carrying on with the Captain. Maybe this prompt will work for the story too :)

Thank you for reading ... the captain inherits from me keen hearing and a great sense of awe about the day-to-day wonders God has made... that was made from my having a 58-inch umbrella and being out walking when others didn't want to be... it is amazing what you hear when you are the only person out to hear it, on a rainy day...

That prompt feels more like Captain Hamilton, who does more field work... if Captain Lee has to come away from his big data during the week, as seen in Black and White and RED All Over, one may expect that someone may end up going through that window...

Never mind, @fitinfun, you were right ... Captain Lee throws a perjurer's story out of a sixth-story window in this one...

Amen!
Thanks for your Testimony. God is God ; All and Everything.

Yep. No matter what I write, that's always what I write ... this is one in an extended story, and I write plenty of other things, but the main theme always comes back. Thanks for reading!
