Weekly Writing Challenge #2 - Goodfellas
Picking my favorite movie of all time is a tough one there are so many but I went with my gut and the first movie I can think of that really stuck with me and has been one of those classic titles.
A movie I don't mind watching over and over and quoting the lines in daily life, even if they don't make any sense to the context of the conversation.
If there is one movie that can do that, then its Goodfellas! I mean what kid growing up in the hood does not have aspirations to either be a sports star or a gangster? It's either one or the other for most.
The story of Goodfellas's mind is a true story and centers around the main character Henry Hill and his life in the mob. It covers his childhood and admiration for the mafia, his relationship with his wife Karen Hill and his mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito in the Italian-American crime syndicate.
The movie takes some dark twists and really shows you the ugly side to being in this business and why it's not all it's cracked up to be if you're looking in from the outside.
It's not all glitz and glamour.

It's very rare that a movie has 3 starts all pulling their weight equally and brings the characters to life in the screen time they have available to them but boy does Robert, Ray, and Joe did an amazing job of filling out these gangsters suits, motives and take you on a ride you'll never forget.

Why I love Goodfellas
I can't speak highly enough about this movie and it needs to be seen to be believed; in one word: perfection. Every frame, every voice-over, every song - it all comes together perfectly to give you an unforgettable cinematic experience.
This film is dark, gritty and makes you really understand and feel what makes the American mafia so compelling; in the eyes of a kid, who was unfortunate enough to grow up in a tough neighborhood, those gangsters are rock stars.
Live fast, die young - but when you die, it ain't gonna be of a glamorous suicide or drug overdose - the ending will be brutal, ugly and sad and you would have had it coming for all that you have dished out up until that point.
Go see it already
The storytelling is enthralling and done with impeccable pacing, this is what it's like when a master composer conducts his masterpiece.
Perhaps I am a bit biased and yes the movie does glamourize gangsterism and violence but it doesn't make it any less of a masterpiece in film making and storytelling.
If you haven't already seen it more than 5 times, I feel you should use this lockdown time to go and see it at least 5 times.

One of my favorite movies, that's why I like Scorsese cinema so much. The way he describes characters and situations is truly amazing, even the secondary characters, those who only appear on one occasion, come to have depth or distinction thanks to the way he presents them on screen.
Oh I fully agree with you on that, he really fleshes out every person and doesn't put unnecessary dialogue or loose ends in his movies. They may be long but they are well thought out and the attention to detail is immense. The fact that he also allows im prove from the actors is also an awesome touch and brings out the best in the talent he works with
