I'm not Dead...

I'm not dead....

Just a few weeks ago while trying to have a conversation with my neice just freshly turned in to some evil teenage beast while she had her face buried in her mobile she anounced that a few of her friends where dead.

My beautiful wife @insideoutlet and I looked puzzled and had to enquire what she meant, personally I had assumed that she was playing some multiplayer game on the phone that she had lost because her friends died.

Dead for her in this sense meant that her close friends had not been active in their group chat for 2 hours.

Now, I'm pretty tech modern, I'm all over memes and had thought that as far as net connected lingo rolls but this one "Dead" surprised, and delighted me.

Being old enough to be what I consider an early adopter of the internet, before the net was the net, before Netscape in 1993 we used to dial up to bulletin boards BBS at speeds measured in Kbits per second, my mate and I at the age of 12-13 could then have to negotiate with the Sysop (system operator) for anything for 2-20 minutes to get access to the board. Thank Christ you can't hear a 12-year-old voice in text.

So we live in a whole new world from the one I grew up in and many of our youth have never known a time without connection and the only analog I can think of as a comparison is that from my youth until now is that it has been like moving from telegraph to radio transmission.

I'm not dead but I have been eaten by zombies.

Ok, so by my niece's definition from her hyper-connected world you might be forgiven for calling me dead given how few posts, comments, and upvotes I have made in the last month and a bit.

When I first found steemit with the ever beautiful @insideoutlet I was really active, well very active for me given that I'm the kind of person that can have 150 unread messages on my mobile and not get stressed, you see social media is not my strong suit.

The price of Steem.

Had absolutely nothing to do with my apparent death, in truth, it's all because I missed gaming, missed being able to switch off at the end of a long work day and enter another world.

This last month I have worked to save the world from the dangers posed by the Conduit in Divinity: Original Sin, I have battled a mad cult with my trusty dog boomer and the local militia in Ubisoft's ode to the second amendment of the US constitution in Farcry 5, and I have survived the night as a runner in one of the most anxiety-inducing games I have ever played Dying Light.

The upside Dying Light being so stressful is that I have had to take a break and steemit just to unwind.

Kind regards

Peter

Have you watched the new jumanji film? Made me think of this in terms of mordern technology.

You funny husband, I am still impressed that you not only post but run the Discord channel for the @asapers, you are quite the little joiner these days, games or no games. x

I’m going through something similar and missed playing games. Been playing Nintendo switch for the past few weeks and it’s almost out of my system now 😂 ready to come back to Steemit wholeheartedly
