The Fondue Pot

in #writing7 years ago

When I married my husband, I also married an insane amount of stuff. He’s a decade older than me, and it is crazy the amount of things one person can collect over a decade, not to mention a lifetime rich in experience and relationships. Older members of his family who had passed had passed along to him multitudes of things like old National Geographic magazines, classic records, tools, et cetera. It was in these heirlooms that I discovered treasure.

No, I didn’t stumble upon precious stocks or a treasure chest of gold. But my husbands ancestors seemed to enjoy creating in the kitchen as much as I do. In the aftermath of a beloved great aunt’s death, he was benefacted many of her possessions. And among those possessions was this beautiful, orange 1970s fondue set that I am madly in love with.

In addition to being vibrantly orange, the fondue pot is decked out with a neat floral pattern. The sticks it comes with are distinguished by a rainbow of colors. And as much as I love fondue (who doesn’t like dipping yummy things in even yummier things?), the thing I love most about the fondue pot is that it once belonged to an amazing woman. One I didn’t get to meet, but one I love to hear stories about. One whose unique tastes and interesting possessions pervade and brighten up my own life.
