I love your story. Waking up and realizing there's just nothing after having died...is what I wish for all the religious fanatics who kill other people because of their own imagination of the afterlife :P
Your style matches the atmosphere I think, it would be a shame not to mention it :)
As for those fanatics, it takes a lot of time and education to change that.
