The Land of the Tall People (another excerpt of my novel)

Another excerpt from a chapter of my novel. The title of the chapter is "

(...) The Talls are thin and threadlike, as I said. A bit like some aliens born from the imagination of those who have to do with aliens and UFOs (but aliens with normal size heads, not huge). Because of this physical conformation, the Talls walk slowly, swaying. They are almost always standing because if they sit down or lie down then they find it hard to get back up. The thighs and calves suffer, the knees and ankles risk breaking, not yo mention the back! So the Talls, to rest, mostly rely on a wall, a tree or some crutches that they manufacture for that purpose. They also have small hoists that they use when they have to sit down and then get up (to do their physical needs, for example). At night they hang on certain harnesses that they can sleep standing on, with their heads left on their chests.

The Tall People are all a bit suffering because of this structural weakness of their bodies. Even looking at their faces you can see that they suffer. Or maybe their faces are simply made like that and they look sad because we look at them with the meter of human faces (a bit like some animals who seem to laugh at us, or who are on alert, and instead they are in peace with the world, a bit like those monkeys, the lemurs, who have those huge eyes wide open that seem frightened or stoned to us, and they are just like that).

In the Tall People's Village there are also normal people (or at least those look like that, normal). These are dedicated to help and take care of those (but not only) who have more difficulties to perform normal daily activities, both for a particular physical weakness and for old age. In fact, the Talls all look elderly, seen by us. Even those that show a smooth and youthful skin (and therefore should be young), move with the slowness and difficulty that makes them look elderly.
