The Creative Writing Challenge - Task #2 - Definitions
For the Creative Writing Challenge #2: Definitions, I have chosen the words splenetic, pinguid, and afreet.
Splenetic - adjective. (spleh-NET-ic) Pertaining to a work or deed done with great energy and verve, but completely lacking in skill or craftiness. Due to wearing galoshes, the boy's entrance in the one-legged race was splenetic at best.
Pinguid - noun. (PIHN-gwihd) A rare breed of flightless Arctic bird known for its strange prehensile appendages that dangle from its beak. The name comes from the misnomer, “Pen-squid,” meaning half-penguin, half-squid. In Inuit folklore, the Pen-squid was a beast that would harvest the brains of children through their nostrils. This docile creature eats snails and rarely attacks children, however.
Afreet - adjective. (ah-FREET) Relating to a fear or phobia that causes a person to run frantically away from the source. In afreet, the splenetic child, shod in galoshes, galumphed away from the lugubriously wallowing pinguid and its prehensile flesh protuberances.

Let's see...splenetic: bad tempered, spiteful. Afreet: a powerful jinn or demon, and pinguid: of the nature of or resembling fat; oily or greasy. LOL, waaaay off.

No, all made-up. I had no idea what the actual words meant when doing this. ;)
If the dictionary had example sentences like this, it would be a much better read. Nice job! :)
I know! Just because Merriam-Webster didn't have a sense of humor doesn't mean we all have to think of words that way.
