Etienne knew who worked there, who just came and went, and mainly what they did there. She knew Riley by name and he knew her.

She knew Falco and Vladimir almost intimately and she knew Selene – she knew a lot about Selene and if Darius ever crossed her, then Selene would find out about the secret that Darius was keeping from her.

The one person that she knew the most about was Entwistle and while she knew there was a connection between her and him somehow, she didn’t know exactly what it was.

Etienne also knew that there was something going on with Entwistle because she had not seen him for a number of days and usually he shadowed Darius to the point of insanity.

He was worse than a lap dog, he was obsessed and if Entwistle had been female, then Etienne would certainly have had a large problem with the closeness there was between the two Wolves.

Selene was sly and devious and not even Riley knew how often she visited, and he didn’t know that she knew the combination number for the security door at the bottom of the stairs.

Laura didn’t know when she was there either, except for when it suited her to let the receptionist know she was in the building.

Etienne had done her level best to know everything that Darius knew – about as much as she could find out. She knew that he had a massive problem with the Sentinels but she could only make an educated guess at what the problem was, why it had happened and how it had become a problem.

She had an inkling of what the Sentinels were but the biased outlook that Darius influenced in her had coloured her judgement and she didn’t really have any need to find a more balanced view.

Etienne watched Riley as he emerged from the cellar with two bowls. They smelled like raw tripe and though she knew that the same smell would have made her retch in her previous and human life, right now, her Wolf senses told her that the aroma was delicious.

What the hell did Riley have down in the cellar that would be fed on raw tripe? There were no dogs on the premises, there was no need of a guard dog and what else would eat that stuff?

Etienne waited for an opportunity to find out.

That afternoon, when Riley went on an assignation with the slut Selene, Etienne had the first and best chance of finding out what was happening.

She let herself in with the spare key that she had had made ages since and, treading cautiously because she also knew that Darius was in the process of installing CCTV cameras throughout the building, she made her way to the cellar door and hoped that it was unlocked.

It wasn’t and Etienne had to have a rethink on her plan. She unlocked the door that led upstairs and, using the same amount of extreme, almost paranoid caution, she went up to Darius’s office.

He was in his office but Laura wasn’t.

Etienne was about to rifle through Laura’s desk when she heard Darius. He called to her and invited her in.

“What are you up to now, Etienne? You know that I’m working late. You can see that Laura isn’t here and neither is Selene nor Jessica, so you have no grounds for jealousy.”

Etienne made an attempt at indignation but she knew that he would see right through the act so she tried honesty for a change.

“I’m curious, darling. I want to know what you’re up to. I know that there is something in the cellar and I want to know what it is. Please tell me.” She played with his hair and his ears for a moment and pouted at him in what she hoped was a sexy and provocative manner.

“There’s not really much to see but if you’d like, I will show you. Come on.”

He stood, took hold of her hand and led her through the office. They didn’t go out of the usual door, but instead he took her to what she had always assumed was a stationery cupboard.

He unlocked it; she thought it was unusual to keep a stationery cupboard locked but said nothing. Then he led her into the cupboard and down the narrow stairs behind the door.

The stairs went down at a steep gradient and she would have been very cautious if she had been leading the way.

The lights were adequate for Wolf eyes but would have made the descent tricky if she didn’t have Wolf eyesight to help her see in the dim light.

Okay, so is Darius removing loose ends one at a time? Or is he really just that stupid?
