Entwistle was never a match for Lord Grey’s experience or years.

In an instant, the Wolf named Entwistle was laid on his side with a snapped spine even before he could snap his jaws closed on any of Lord Grey’s body. As the hapless Entwistle twitched in agony, unable to move, Lord Grey composed himself, rearranged his torn clothing and buzzed down to the bar and Riley came up at a run.

Riley rushed into the office and saw the scene of devastation. The heavy desk toppled, and the chair across the room where it had been thrown as Entwistle had tried to get to his intended victim.

Riley looked to Lord Grey and then to Entwistle in shock and it was only then that Lord Grey looked at his attacker.

Entwistle had changed back to human form – or at least his upper body had, his paralysed lower portion was still in Wolf form because his brain could not send the messages through the broken connections between the synapses to tell that part of his body to change.

“We live and learn.” Lord Grey said and Riley was shocked at his aplomb.

“Do you want me to kill him?” Riley asked.

“Yes... no. Take it to the cellars, make a bed for it there, I’ll visit it later. Try to keep it alive if you can.” And Lord Grey turned his back on his once faithful toady and left the office.

Riley didn’t care if Entwistle lived or died and he didn’t exert himself as he half carried and half dragged Entwistle’s curious form down two flights of stairs to the cellars.

He responded to the wails of pain with a grunt or a, “Shut the fuck up!” and he dumped the moaning and semi-conscious body on the concrete floor close to the barrels that served the bar.

Entwistle was naked and Riley went back up to the office to retrieve the clothing that had been discarded as the man had changed to Wolf.

Not all the items were beyond salvage but Riley didn’t care. He took the bundle and dropped it on Entwistle’s head. Then he left him to it as he went to find something for him to lie on.

The cage that would be used for Jessica was off to the side and Riley wondered how she would react when she saw that she would be sharing her cell with her attacker.

It wasn’t his problem but someone may be interested in the information and Riley was a dealer in information.

When Jessica was moved, it took a number of syringes of sedative, Falco, Vladimir and Riley’s help, a lot of ropes – found by Riley of course – and the skill and bravery of all concerned to subdue, muzzle and carry her down to the cellar.

Riley’s assumption had been correct, though she was sedated heavily; she went berserk when she saw Entwistle’s form lying on the floor.

Riley stayed behind to tidy up the cellar where the struggling Wolves had knocked things around.

He also took the opportunity to take photos on his cell phone and he was in the process of emailing them to his many contacts. On a whim, he also pulled the sheet from Entwistle’s body and photographed that too, from different angles, just to prove that the image hadn’t been ‘photoshopped’.

He made a mental note to bring some of the portable lighting rigs down to the cellar so that he could video Jessica at some point. He knew a few of his contacts that would pay him well if they could get access to this.

Chapter 18

Etienne was exceptionally angry.

She was under the assumption that she was Darius’s girlfriend at the very least and perhaps his intended wife and she was becoming jealous that the Jessica project was taking up too much of his time.

She knew Jessica was special and Darius had assured her that she was not his type – at all – but Etienne was deranged by the drugs that Darius was experimenting on her with, she was unstable because she had been yet another Throwback only a few years previously and she was completely and utterly bat-shit-crazy because the Lupine moon was playing with her mind.

Not to mention that just lately she’d had the distinct feeling that someone was watching her every move.

She had got so paranoid about it that she had taken steps to ensure that there was no way that anyone could get inside information on her either from outside sources, gossip or even spy-cameras.

She never went the same way home – from wherever she was and she visited Darius’s building every day and often without him knowing about it.
