Selene made her way back to the offices and Riley was forced to run on ahead of her, they couldn’t be seen to arrive together, even if the first time it happened would be seen as a coincidence. When Selene arrived, she ignored Riley at the bar, as usual and went up to the offices.

She enquired after Jessica only in a casual question and seemed to take little notice of the answer. She didn’t need to try hard to pretend that she was no longer interested, since Lord Grey had removed her from her guidance; Selene really couldn’t care less what happened to her.

Jessica was studying; she was in a room reading some of the books that Lord Grey had provided for her so that she could read up on the history of Wolf society.

There were not many books on the subject, a mere half a dozen. It was late and she knew there were few people left in the upstairs of the building, most had gone out into the Full Moon or down to the bar below. She was trying to concentrate because the pull of the moon was far stronger than she had ever felt it and she was desperate not to allow it to influence her.

She had much to prove and was determined to try her very best.

She was completely engrossed in reading and didn’t realise that she had someone with her until he sat beside her and startled her. She knew who it was that had sat down and she also knew that he knew she had seen him – he couldn’t have missed the reaction, but still she didn’t want to acknowledge him or even speak to him.

Her loathing for the Wolf called Entwistle had grown immeasurably. Since she had been increasingly in the company of Vladimir and Falco, she realised that there was something deeply disturbing about Entwistle, or ‘Lickspittle’ as the others were calling him more and more frequently.

He stroked a finger down her arm as it lay on the desk and she shuddered. Whether he knew that the shudder was revulsion or he was genuinely mistaken, she didn’t know but he sniggered and said,

“You like that, don’t you, widdle Wabbit.”

The way he spoke her nickname, in a parody of a child’s voice made her shudder again and she put down her book and was about to ask him to leave but the expression on his face gave her reason to hold her natural reactions in check and suddenly she didn’t dare to treat him like the other Wolves did.

She saw that she was in immediate and extreme danger.

Entwistle wasn’t just looking at her, he was studying her with a fierce intensity that would have scared her even if she had been Wolf already. His eyes gleamed and his cheeks were flushed and she knew the look, she had seen it before, but it had never been directed at her, it had always been toward Ellie but Ellie was far better at dealing with the lust-heated males. She could slap them down and not worry about their anger.

“I know you like me, widdle Wabbit, I’ve seen the way you look at me under those long lashes and you act all coy and shy when there are others around but I know that you’re not coy and shy really. I liked you the first time I saw you, your hair was damp and clung to your face and your jeans clung to your legs...”

He stopped talking and his eyes closed in what appeared to be reminiscence and that disturbed Jessica far more than anything else he had done. She realised what he was up to and she didn’t have the life-skills to deal with it.

She hadn’t had many boyfriends and none that had got past the light petting stage, she was too shy and too naive and too far under the shadow of Ellie the strong, sexy, self-assured friend.

It had been Ellie that had got all the attention and Jessica had none, not even unwanted attention, and so now that she had finally come up against some, she was at a loss.

“Yeah, well it’s been nice talking to you Entwistle, but it’s dinner time and I’m starving, do you want to go and get something to eat?” She began to pack up the books and stack them on the table but he caught hold of her arm and held it tight.

“I don’t think you want to go for something to eat, I think you’re afraid of your feelings towards me and you’re making excuses in case you get into trouble with Selene. Well don’t worry my widdle Wabbit, I’ll never tell her about this, about us.”

Such an amazing creativity.

"Widdle Wabbit". OMG this kills me.

Selene, I think is about to walk into something, just don't know if it will be pre-made carnage or her making carnage of Entwistle. Or it could be nothing I suppose.
