My third novel was finished and published in time for Halloween 2016 and I had a launch at Waterstone's at Sheffield.

Jessica heard screeching and she went towards the sounds and realised that she could also hear a strange sound of cooking noises. When she investigated further she realised her mistake and the sounds were not of cooking but of torture.

There were two Wolves before her and she seemed to be inside a cave or dungeon of some sort. One Wolf was held captive and the other was branding his flesh with something that was bloody and steaming. Jessica didn’t think it was hot however, and as she got closer, she realised that the steam and the sizzling was coming from the weapon.

It was silver and each time it touched the Wolf’s skin, the skin boiled and blistered and the metal sank into the flesh as the woman applied more pressure and the other Wolf screeched his agony.

Eventually the captured Wolf expired and the female Wolf turned to Jessica and unlike any of the other scenarios before, the woman could see her and Jessica saw a resemblance to Selene in the woman’s face through the smears of blood. Jessica recoiled and the woman smiled.

“No Jessica, there’s no need for your alarm. My daughter will never harm you and what you see here is a product of her engineering but she has sent my image to tell you that the Wolves you spoke with yesterday are the ones that have the best interests of all Wolves at heart. Not this one that you listen to now. He cannot know that Selene is communicating with you through his story but know this, if you do fulfil his desires and his every wish, you will be the cause of the downfall of Wolf and man both. There are dark days ahead and decisions that you must make. Follow your heart, little Throwback and make the right choices for the right reasons.”

The woman turned and sliced the head off the corpse that hung before her and she threw the head at Jessica’s feet. The face was Entwistle’s.

They had to declare Throwbacks illegal and that meant that a new order of Wolves had to come into being and the Sentinels were created.

The one that declared herself to be Sentinel Exemplar – the Leader above all - was a new Wolf called Hazel; she had the privileged position of having been Wolfed on Feralia and was the wife of the Lycaeon’s favourite which gave her the might of the throne behind her claim.

She laid claim to the position because of the coincidence of her first kill – on the night of Feralia – and though she broke many of the First laws, those indiscretions were overlooked because she was close to the Lycaeon.

I have been alive for far longer than she has and I did not dare to dream of becoming the Leader of all the Wolf Police force, for that’s what Sentinel boils down to. She can kill indiscriminately and without fear of punishment where any other Wolf would be hunted by their peers for such a crime. She is corrupt and has even killed one of the Lycaeon’s true heirs because he found out that she was dealing in illegal drugs which were especially damaging to Wolfkind.

The reason that there must be a contender to the present Sentinel Exemplar is because Wolves are again in danger and there needs to be a balance.

The scene that Jessica was shown was exhilarating. She was amongst a pack of Wolves that had just set out on a hunt.

They were following behind the leader of the pack and Jessica found that she kept up with them and felt everything that they felt. She saw the little boys that were brought down by the lead Wolf and as the moon shone down on her fur, Jessica saw the unusual colouration of the fur. She was the colour of a fox and she was beautiful in her deadliness.

Jessica was enthralled by the beauty of the Wolves as they hunted, and repulsed by the act of murder as she thought of it.

She saw Lord Grey as he discovered that his wife had been one of the victims and Jessica saw his reaction – if she had imagined that he would be shattered and distraught at the discovery that his wife had been slain, she was mistaken.

Jessica saw fury and damaged pride but no grief and she realised that Selene’s mother had been telling the truth.

Oh what a tangled web you weave...That's from a book or poem, can't remember for sure, but it really fits in here. We are about to see some real growth coming for Jessica I think, we have just witnessed phenomenal growth in just this one little part. Very very fine piece.

When first we practice to deceive... that's off the top of my head, apologies if it's wrong :)

Thank you! I always appreciate your comments xx

I love your stories. Please check my profile for mine and give me your opinion :)

Thank you. I took a look at some of your posts.

Take a look at how I set-out my stories. For Steemit.com you would perhaps do well to space out the writing more so there is more 'white space' between the lines.

It makes it easier to read and more attractive to the eye.

I also try to go over my writing twice after I have written it because that helps me to see if there is anything that sounds odd or will give the wrong slant to my story. I don't want to make the reader laugh in the middle of a serious scene, for example.

Great post madam. I always read your story.

Thank you. I'm glad you enjoy it, but I'm puzzled as to why you didn't upvote it if you think it's a great post?
