Art Prompt Writing Contest #6 - Fear of The Sea

That morning the weather was cloudy and the waves were very strong, Felix decided to go swimming in the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, he was a skillful swimmer and he always felt like a fish in the water. He was the youngest of three siblings and had been raised to be an excellent fisherman so from an early age he went fishing with his father to support his family, and at twelve he was a very responsible young man.

On the shore was Ana, a young city girl with her long blond hair, chocolate-colored eyes and tanned skin, also twelve years old, she walked as she always did on the beach, she liked to see the boys in the area swimming and felt some envy, because although they knew how to swim, she feared the sea. Her parents had a cabin near the beach where they went every summer and invited family and friends to spend the holidays, but one day when Ana was 5 years old her mother died drowned in those waters and they never found her body, so her father I did not let her get too close to the beach. Ana saw how the boys played and enjoyed themselves when jumping those huge waves, playing with the water and finding treasures at the bottom of the sea.

One of so many mornings, she saw that the boy who was always swimming on the beach was in trouble, he was submerging and it was hard to come to the surface, it seemed that he was drowning. Ana looked around and there was no one around who she could ask for help, she did not know what to do. Instinctively she jumped into the water and swam where Felix was and, as best she could, took him to the shore. Already safe Felix thanked Ana and they became great friends.

Ana was spent time with her new friend every morning, Felix was a dark-skinned boy with abundant black hair, and she thought he was very handsome and nice. She told him what had happened to his mother and why she did not swim on the beach like the other kids. Little by little, thanks to Felix's help, she lost her fear of the sea, she no longer saw the waters as that immense monster that had taken her mother away, she could admire its beauty and enjoy bathing and playing on the beach. She realized that in order to overcome her fears, she had to face them with courage, that fear was not going to take away the opportunities to live a life of doing what she wanted. It was a lesson that at twelve years she would treasure all her life.

On the day of her departure to the city, she and Felix agreed to meet on the beach to watch the stars at night. Sitting in the sand they talked about how nice the time they had spent together had been and they promised to meet again next summer. They enjoyed that wonderful show of constellations that they had before their eyes with the illusion of new adventures to discover ....
