Advice for Aspiring writers found on Beautiful and Damned
I found these two important pieces of advice through beautiful and damned by F scott fitzgerald. If you want to read about the story of a young man who indulge in decadent lifestyle but falls apart as hurdles starts coming-- this one is perfect read. The book has advices on how to be a writer and the effect of alcoholism and vanity.
so far as articles on literary subject in these obscures magazine go, you couldn't make enough to pay your rent. Of course if a man has a gift of humor, or a change at a big biography, or some specialized knowledge, he may strike rich. But for you, fiction is the only thing. It would be a year and a half before you'd make any money out of a novel.Try some popular short stories. And by the way, unless they are exceptionally brilliant they have to be cheerful and on the side of the heaviest artillery to make you any money- Dick.
Those are somewhat true, one can not instantly get the money and the fame only by releasing a novel. It sometimes takes year to get there and even often one have to compromise for the market. Find out more by reading this piece of book even he's not the best author out there, he is still worth to read especially for aspiring writers. If you want to read similar author there is Ernest Hemingway.
It is true that a new fiction author must present a completed novel; slightly different for non-fiction, as a good subject, synopsis and sample chapter may well earn you an advance :-)

If someone knew how to write short stories, it was FS Fitzgerald for sure :) He made more money with his short stories than with his major novels... Even though these novels were the ones who made his name immortal!
@herverisson, I have not read his short stories but I collect his novels. As for me, beautiful and damned bears so much resembles to today's society and I could not get enough of it. Anthony's life seems so common with youngsters in this era which I found surprising given it was written years ago.
