Nathan closed his eyes and breathed deeply, it wasn’t long and he was connected with all forms of life that surrounded them.

Around him he sensed eyes on him and a silence among their troops as they watched.

Tiny strings of magic danced in his mind eye connecting him to everything living, in particular he connected with the roots of the trees that were scattered but not far from the base o f the Keep walls.

The strands of magic intensified the string counted to millions in numbers and he had the strange sense …someone else was watching.

He wasn’t sure how, but he knew it was the enemy fire Mage...little could be done to shroud a magic spell of this intensity so he ignored the probing feeling and continued with the spell.

He raised his arms and his fingers danced, the roots of the trees followed his wishes, rapidly growing, probing and expanding they twisted their way upwards in any small gaps they could find with in the stone walls.   The plant life resisted, the space insufficient to grow, but he pushed his request and the roots tried to comply.

He clenched his fists and concentrated hard, and while the ocean breeze was cool he could feel the sweat on his brow…his connection to nature nearly perfect he felt like he was one with the trees and roots themselves…he could feel a strange discomfort from the strain of the roots trying to achieve their task.

He tapped into his own reserves and in a final display of power unleashed the spell for a explosive final growth of the roots. He opened his hand ever so slightly with the growth, but found he couldn’t open it more then a fraction, the walls too strong the space to limiting to permit growth…it just wasn’t enough, he needed to add more power.   His inner reserves were fully tapped but he knew where he could find more magic…he connected deeper within himself and tapped into his own life force.

“Master what are you doing?” whispered Sharee in his mind.

“I need this spell to work, but I don’t have enough strength the normal way”

“Master, if you tap into your own life force like this I will not be able to heal you”.

“I’m sorry  Sharee but I must do this, these people are giving their lives for this cause..how can I give any less to ensure success”.

“Master …together we will have enough I will boost your spell!.. but after I will not be strong enough to help you face the fire mage challenge, you will do so alone”.

He considered it, they had talked about using Valar’s balancing skills in the matter, but he really wasn’t ready yet.

“Do it Sharee!”.
