Why this artist started using steemit
I’m an artist, and I’m new here.
Six months ago I didn’t know about cryptocurrency or steemit, but I had heard rumors and I wanted to know more. Three days ago I decided to try it out.
Why?
Because I want to know how the platform can empower creatives like myself to build support and money for work that they’re already doing. Performing and visual artists make content all the time. In fact, it’s our bread and butter. I think steemit can, and will, empower the artist community in unprecedented ways.

As an artist, I want to find other artists who are working to push the boundaries of their respective fields, or who are collaborating cross-sector to create new media and experiences for communities.
Two accounts I already love are @jampresents and @d-pend. They’re working on a one-act musical theatre and multimedia production for 6-8 Canadian youth that will be inspired by Joseph Campbell’s “The Hero’s Journey” and follow a tale from Filipino folklore. Hear their demo here.
Forewarning: I have a long-time love affair with Joseph Campbell and will write more about him later.
Who are your favorite steemit artists, activists, and cultural advocates?
I can’t wait to find and follow you. To kick off this journey and meet some cool people I’m working with @markmorrisjr for the next 10 days on the #DolphinSchool Challenge to learn the ins and outs of the platform and hook up with like-minded folkx. Let’s connect. :)

I cannot wait for more top rate artistic content to become a regular thing here. I look forward to what you bring to the table!
I have it in the back of my mind to get a studio going here in Edmonton where I am involved in Hip Hop and (a little bit) theatre... to push out some content. I am a bit of a ways away from that yet but the vision is alive.
Thanks so much--I truly believe that most issues in this world can be solved with the kind of creative thinking that artists bring to the table! I’m excited to see steemit grow as a place for creative folks to organize.
What kind of content would you want to create? Hip Hop, or?
Yes, I would like to work on music... but this day and age that needs to be visual too. I also have always liked the idea of sketch comedy or even a weekly show (the sky is the limit). It is all just beginning to brew.
Well please be sure to share/post as you do! Would love to hear/support. :)

Always nice to meet a fellow artist working in a completely different field... =) As I've written elsewhere, to me, understanding our universe and sharing our experiences through creativity is like a super-power we've gain through evolution.
Glad to have met you through #dolphinschool! As I commented on your intro post, we seem to share a philosophy, so I'm looking forward to future interaction!
Yep, stoked to connect with you and read/support more of your stuff over the next 10 days of #dolphinschool. It’s a lot of work, but hey, it’s all about that #artisthustle, right? :)
This piece is all the things. Seriously. Excellent use of images, good visual feel, very readable and interesting. Kudos for linking to a fellow #dolphinschool initiate. Now, for the critique. Italics, if you're using them for captions, switch to a quote tag for the heading text. It will keep them separate. Added value: you should consider outlining three points, or a bullet list on how you want to use to Steemit to support your own work, or specific ways others are supporting theirs. Great post, definite contender for the revenue share post. Thanks!
Great, thanks for the note on the image captions. I’ve been learning all the new formatting over the last 3 days so any tweaks to make it all more elegant/schmancy are definitely welcome! And the note on added value is noted and I’ll incorporate that into my post for today. I love critique (praise is great, but where does it get you, right?) so keep it coming. Looking to grow and thankful for the help. Cheers!
Especially this part: "Because I want to know how the platform can empower creatives like myself to build support and money for work that they’re already doing. Performing and visual artists make content all the time. In fact, it’s our bread and butter. I think steemit can, and will, empower the artist community in unprecedented ways." That's exactly how I feel about it! Your Pics are really great as well! Thank you for sharing! I look forward to seeing more of your work :) Side note, in doing research I found I am descended from the same 'Clan' as Joseph Campbell (Although that's not the only Scottish line) :) I look forward to learning more about his works from your posts!
Hey! Thank you so much for the support, and so excited to meet a JC clan member. :) Looking forward to reading more of your stuff too! Followed.
You’re absolutely right to join!!! Content makers like us are extremely empowered by joining Steemit and creating some monetary value for their time spent to create beautiful stuff. I’m curious what you’ll bring Steemit so I’ll start following you! Welcome!
Thank you so much. I just looked at your account (it’s beautiful!) and followed you back. Looking forward to seeing you around.
Thank you! Same here! See ya soon :-)
Nice introduction Lily. I have read Joseph Campbell and his books are excellent. Wishing you much fun and success on Steemit. I’m a newbie too.
Upvoted and followed.
Awesome! Thanks so much. I love any story involving a hero. :) Looking forward to seeing more of your work over the next few weeks!
Upvoted ☝ Have a great day!
Thank you! :)
Welcome to #dolphinschool! Im excited to be part of it and i love getting to know all the new steemians and fellow classmates.
I recently stared following @jampresents as well as yourself as part of the challenge. I'm looking forward to seeing us all develop over the coming days. See you soon.
Yessss! I followed you too. Excited to see what we can do in the next few days. <3
Wow, 3 days in and already flying. You've produced a great post, readable and entertaining. And I love it that more artists are finding their way here. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your material here at Steemit :)
Thanks so much, I’m loving the platform and community so far. Onwards and upwards! :)
If you're prepared to work at it - and clearly you are given your #dolphinschool enrolment - then you'll do alright. One can't predict timing of these things, but engagement is key. And artists are natural communicators, in ways that suite them as artists that is.
Fingers crossed and #gameon. :) Looking forward to connecting more during #dolphinschool.
