Writing a novel can be a daunting task.

in #writing8 years ago

Reading is one of the hobbies that I have had since I was young...if someone had seen me at that time they would have thought of me as a bookworm. I mean why wouldn't they when I am always immersed in a book or two almost every day. The school library where I borrowed my books from to read at home was like a second home to me. There was something about the books that always kept bringing me back to the library.

But that doesn't mean I wasn't an athletic person...everyday I would spend at least two to three hours with my friends playing soccer in the desert sand. There were also plenty of school sports competition that I took part in but the image of me being a bookworm never kind of left my friends and I guess I like that image. The types of books that I like reading are mostly fantasy or science-fiction novels. Those books always brought me to worlds I wished I could have been part of but sadly that never happened.

So what did I decided to do...I started doing some freestyle writing...at first in order to better my writing skill and eventually decided to work on a novel of my own. Sadly...it wasn't one but a lot of different story ideas that I had in mind that I had to leave behind unfinished. There were many reasons...a few of them being inexperienced with the art of narration. There were times when I would accidentally write in first-person view things that I should have written in a third-person style.

One of the novels I am working on is set in a fantasy world for which I am still working hard on trying to create a unique set of pantheons as well as cultures. That in itself can be a very daunting task and sometimes I have to bash my head against the wall trying to figure out what it is that I really want with the culture. I am not Tolkien...or even Pike...I am just me but I know that someday I will be able to finish my books...(quite jealous of my younger brother..he already finished writing two books some sort of universal comedies that I will tell you about one of these days.)

The second book is a science fiction novel with some elements that are similar to what you can find in the star ocean series but I have used some scientific-technological advancements to make them happen instead of just random magic casting. This book as well sadly never got finished cause I couldn't bring myself to build a proper timeline of the history of it. For some reason when it comes to building the history of the different worlds that I have set my characters in...I get troubled.

So why am I talking about here...well I think it's best if I could get some advice about it from my fellow writers that way at least I can gain some more ideas on how I can go about with the world creation process. Please let me know what you guys think I should do in order to help me better focus on my novels.

I suggest getting involved with @rhondak and her fiction workshop on the discord, it could be very helpful.

@sammosk, I will try that...to be honest I have been working on those books for a while and I have edited them so many times because every time I read my chapters...I found it was lacking hopefully, @rhondak...will be able to give me some pointers.

Sometimes, I think of doing a fantasy fiction too. Not sure if this would help but I whenever I want to write, I think of the games I played and how the story was told. Sometimes I also think of doing a sequel of the games I played or combine different characters in different worlds and do some twists in the story just for fun.

I'm not a pro but write something that takes you back to your imaginary mind when you were a child, that's what I usually do.

Cheers man! Great post as always

Thanks @rye05, yeah I have tried that but I want to add more uniqueness to it. I don't know I don't want them to be like fan fictions or something. But I will try to get back into my imaginary mind when I was a child :)

Let the character(s) talk to you... You'll see or feel them when you write about them, sometimes they will force you to write this way or that way... Let them and you'll see the progress when you write it.

Its more like I cant seem to be able to describe certain things properly...mainly when it comes to buildings and stuff..

If you like fantasy writing, you've missed #steemlords but why don't you keep an eye on this and then join in?
