I love this, you picked a great word and your story fit it very well! One of my friends called a song chthonic angst and I had to google it. You don't see that one around very often!

The thing that I discovered is that it's pronounced 'tha-nik', so in your case, 'tha-nik angst'. If you said that in public, I pretty much guarantee NOBODY knows what you just said.
Yeah I had to read the pronunciation it's not obvious at all!
