THE THIN LINE BETWEEN LIKE AND LOVE
I grew up to love action movies from actors like Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and the rest but recently, I have lost interest in them and prefer to watch comedy and/or romance movies instead. Maybe I am just tired of watching people spill blood and want to see more of love and laughter. Recently, I watched a movie titled Set It Up and learnt a new thing about like and love:
You like because and love despite.
This looks like an incomplete sentence but I will make you understand in my own words. You like someone because of all the qualities they possess. This means when you discover you like someone, you have accepted the person’s character, habit and flaw. Take a look at your friend that has been with you for years or months, you will discover how quick you can forgive him/her, you will notice how easy you can defend or tell about his/her attributes. This is because of this key word, “ACCEPTANCE.” You have accepted and adapted to the person’s way of life, you have grown to accept who they really her.
Now to the love part, you love someone despite some of their qualities. We can’t all be perfect, human’s life is about flaws and good traits. Love makes you look at someone and develop this feeling because of their good traits while overlooking the flaws. Let us get this simple enough for you to understand, look at a man that snores, eats loudly yet he is caring and nice. Love will make a woman to accept that he isn’t perfect and still be with him. Some women will leave because of his flaws, this is because they have not learn to love him.
The thing about love and like is that you tend to overlook the flaws or habits that you don’t like about a person and be passionate by the very good things about them that you have learnt to love. Love totally makes you blind to someone’s flaw, no wonder they say love is blind. You may have heard people tell you to open your eyes wide when in love so you can see the flaws. Seeing is no longer the issue but accepting what you have seen. If you say to yourself that you love someone but there are many things about the person you don’t like or trying hard to cope with, this is not love at all.
Do you know true love isn’t just about meeting someone and falling over and over for them? It is about finding an imperfect person and taking him/her just like that. It is not that easy but doesn’t mean it is not achievable. I have heard people say the best relationship starts from friendship and that is true. During friendship, you learn about a person – the totality of the person. Deciding to create a love relationship from the friendship means you both have decided to live with some of each other’s qualities. I love you because you give me peace of mind, I love you because you have always been there for me, I love you because I have grown since we met.
To make this simple, whatsoever you feel for someone, be honest to tell. Let us stop spreading false love or mistaking the right feeling for the wrong one. This is the reason why most people are afraid to fall in love. You can enter a relationship because you like the person and eventually grow to love. It is very practical. Thanks for reading.
