HOW TO CONVERT YOUR BOOK IN A 7 EASY STEPS
If you want to succeed as a writer on the global market, sooner or later you will realize that the e-book is format which will give you a chance to reach the largest possible number of readers. If you are not a native English speaker you will need to provide a translation of your book, which is usually not an easy task. However, thanks to the platforms that connect writers and translators, it is possible to do it without financial investment, about which I wrote here.
It usually happens that when we think we have a solution in front of us, we only recognize additional problems. I will not go into the tiny details, but one of the things I had to figure out was how to convert the .doc or .docx files to some of the most common formats, readable by devices like Kindle or Nook.
There are many reasons to do this conversion by yourself. Some of the translation services will ask for money to do it for you, but our goal is to save as much as we can. It is smarter to invest money in advertising of the published book.
The solution for this problem comes in simple and free software called Calibre E-book Manager. In the following steps I will try to explain how to create files that will be readable and ready to use by most e-book readers.
1. DOWNLOAD CALIBRE E-BOOK MANAGER
All you need to do is go to https://calibre-ebook.com/ and download the version of the software that suits you best.
2. ADD THE SOURCE OF YOUR BOOK
This is usually .doc or .docx, but you can import most of the files created by popular text editors.
3. PICK THE BOOK YOU WANT TO CONVERT
Make sure that the desired file is highlighted, because sometimes Calibre sorts the files in the order that is not chronological.
4. INITIATE THE CONVERSION
Once you've imported the desired file, pressing the "convert" button will start a dialog where we will adjust all the necessary details before the conversion.
5. ENTER THE BOOK DETAILS
Now it is time to enter the details such as the name of the book, the author's name, the name of the series, etc. This is not mandatory, but it is recommended. In the upper right corner, as you can see, you are free to choose the desired output format. For the purpose of this tutorial, I have chosen Epub.
6. ADD YOUR BOOK COVER
If you are preparing to publish your first book, you probably have its cover ready. Good looking book cover is extremely important when it comes to e-publishing. It will often be one of key factors which drives potential customer to pick your title among all others available.
7. PREPARE TO LAUNCH
Your book will be ready soon.
8. RUN SOME TESTS
Don't forget to test the newly created book file on your reader. If you do not have any available, you can do it by selecting the view option in Calibre.
So, thats it! Now you have your first e-book and you are ready to make some big sales :-) If you wonder where to start after this step is done, you can check my other posts here.
