RE: A Man Is Thirsty

Dude! This is awesome! You're a great writer. Keep up the great work. I would say that I felt the same way as you did about children. I'm guessing you're pretty young. What I've noticed (I'm now 34) is that when you're young your attitude is, "What's the point of kids? I have my whole life ahead of me, I have a career to think about, I have grand ambitions to consider." I would argue these are beliefs that largely come from our culture. Our culture wants us working, not reproducing. The only value our culture has for offspring is tax revenue, which just isn't compelling. So anyone smart goes, "Why the fuck would I do that." Then you spend some time in the world, you gain a little wisdom and your perspective changes. Most people wind up in trivial careers working ordinary jobs and that is totally fine. Everyone who has a child is participating in an extraordinary experiment and they know it. We only hear about the bad days and we fixate on the people who do it badly, but everyone I know who is intelligent and successful (ironically now the people least likely to have kids) and who has kids loves having them and obviously views them as far more important than their careers (and the people I know have achieved a level of success few can dream of).

Haha thanks for the long post! I guess most of us go through the same phases :)
However, coming from an asian culture, it's pretty much both ways - we are encouraged to work and reproduce at the same time xD
