What Do You Want To Write About? – 5 Points To Finding Your True Voice

in #writing8 years ago (edited)

If you’re anything like me you might be completely new to the concept of blogging. As much as I’ve always loved to write I have never focused on how to create posts for others to read.

Are you also interested in how you can find your true voice in blogging?

I decided to do some research and write out my true thoughts on it all. I want to teach myself and also inspire anybody else who feels the same as me.

Step 1 : Be yourself

The most important thing in this all is allowing yourself permission to be true to you. There is nothing others enjoy more than being able to relate to another.

People love authenticity, so if you have something you want to express just do it. Don’t back down from who you are and what you love to write about because it’s not “popular”. Know that there will always be people who will find interest in the things you post.

Step 2 : Be Innovative

Remember that in order for this site to grow and become more people need to be innovative. Posting different things other than what is popular will make you stand out more. This goes back to being true to yourself and what you can provide to this community that is unique.

I have always believed that success will come with being true to yourself. It might take a bit of time for others to find you and be able to relate to the things you post and thats okay. Not straying from your belief that what you post can be of value is what will lead you to success.

Realize also that there is no specific style of blogging or writing that is the “one true way”. People will always value honesty over perfectionism. Popular blogs are popular based on their own authenticity and information.

Step 3 : Find Your Passion

What are you good at? What are your interests? What are you knowledgeable on?

It may seem like a good idea to post about a diverse number of subjects, but narrowing it down is more effective. Figuring out your image and what you want to write about is important.

What are you able to write about that will add value to the people reading it? What types of things do you want to share with others? Do you love art and feel that sharing your pieces will add joy to those who view it? Are you knowledgeable on a specific subject and feel you can teach others something?

Create a list of your interests, what you want to write about and what you want to offer to others with your posts. Remember to focus on what you can provide for your reader based on what you know.

Step 4 : Brainstorm for Creativity

Once you have figured what you know you can write about begin brainstorming ideas of what you could post.
Take time every day to think of at least 5 new post ideas.

You might not take action and write about every idea you come up with, but it will get your mind working. You will be sure to pick one that stands out and feels right in the moment that you can expand on. You might even later decide to review your list and feel inspired by an idea you had bypassed earlier.

Writing out ideas everyday will keep you focused on writing and what you want to achieve. Never stop yourself from growing. Read other posts on the subjects you find interest in and continue learning and gaining ideas. Find and follow others who share the same interests as you.

Research and read articles online, draw, take notes, etc. Whatever it is that gets your inspiration flowing.

Step 5 : Practice Makes Perfect

The only way to keep better at something is to keep doing it, so write often.

Do some research online about blog posting and how to make your posts more effective. There are so many great websites and videos available that detail key points on how to make great blogs. Put aside time everyday where you focus on just writing.

Make it your goal to continue to grow and improve with every new post. Never stop learning and wanting to become better.

If you have any more points to add on finding your true voice in blogging I would love to hear from you!
