ADSactly Crowd Story

in #writing7 years ago

We start a story and you continue in the comments where the last person left off. I provide a setting, characters and the start of a plot. Together we create a story that would ordinarily be unimaginable.

NUMBER your posts to keep these more organize. Be advised some stories contain course language.

Deafening, the waterfall's heavy flow echos through the small valley as SAM (26) approaches with her camera and tripod. It was quite a hike, but the adventure and this opportunity for her portfolio was well worth it. As Sam sets up her tripod she takes a moment, absorbing the pristine scene as the mist from the waterfall hits her, she takes a deep breath.

BANG BANG BANG "Was that a gun?" she mouths, confused. Suddenly a body comes flying over the edge of the waterfall. The hard smack hitting the river floor reverberates in the valley, nobody could have survived that. She rushes into the water to check if they are still alive but before she gets close, the water around the body turns crimson.

In dismay she rushes back to her tripod to pack up her gear. Two figures look over the edge of the water fall, shouting "Don't move, stay there!" Flustered, Sam just grabs her camera and tripod and starts running as the figure fire at her, missing each shot.

CORNELIUS (50's) looks to his henchman, "Catch her, kill her, we'll take care of the rest of them," he says with a dead pan expression and turns to face a group of people, blind folded and hands bound. "Now go!"

Sam rushes through the forest, running as fast as she can, the panic is felt in her breath, she trips, twisting her ankle and tumbling to the floor, where her camera breaks off the tripod. Not Far away a voice is echos through the woods, "..."

  1. While not seriously hurt, but with pain throbbing from her ankle, she looks around for a place to hide. Seeing a big tree off by the hill she moves closer when suddenly she see a hole. Is this a cave? she thinks. It looks a little man-made. It looks like it is an old, old temple going into the hill. She reaches into her bag, grabs her cell phone to use as a flashlight and pushes inside the camouflaged entrance. She hears footsteps running past the cave outside. She feels a drip of cool water on her face, her eyes adjust. She moves inside the cave about twenty feet when she sits down on the floor and breathes a sign of relief. What happened? Why was the man killed? Who was shooting at her? And where was she now? All these questions raced through here mind; when she looked up and saw...

Eyes, beady little eyes, everywhere, staring down at her, she gasped and instinctively, quickly covered her mouth with her hand in shock and horror. Bats, the jaggedly hewn rock ceiling was covered with dark wet roots and vines; tightly intertwined with bats hanging down like strange rotting fruit. She sat shaking from the cold and the fear, adrenalin pumping fast through her body with each heartbeat pounding loudly in her head. She hated bats and spiders. It was all she could do to keep herself from running out screaming. She said to herself, “Think, dam it, think.”

. 3. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, "they're only bats" she said to herself. She repeated these breathing exercises for a few moments until her heartbeat started to slow. She still had a lot of things racing through her mind, just then she remembers that she was able to snap a picture of the two men atop the waterfall. She quickly takes out her camera and scrolls through the images to get a better look at the killers. She zooms in on the one mans face, thinking she recognizes his mustache, when all of a sudden it clicks, "I know him!"...

.4. He was the man she saw at the rock shop. Two days ago, right after she arrived in town, she was sitting having breakfast in the beautiful open air café. She had ordered iced coffee and was watching the action in the small quaint town when he went in to do business at the shop across the street. The shop sold rocks, statues, idols, fossils, carvings, wooden bowls and almost everything else they could sell to tourists. He was clearly not a tourist, they didn’t drive local cars and not cars like his. But for some reason he didn’t seem like a businessman either. She had seen several strange looks form the locals who glanced by and saw his face. And it was the statues in that shop, most very overpriced and very poor copies. She knew an original statue when she saw one. These were fakes. The locals didn’t buy those. Gradually, a bit of clarity came. She was into something big. He could be smuggling drugs, but that didn’t make sense they didn’t kill people over drugs in this country, as long as you gave the officials a cut they looked the other way. Was he trafficking in stolen idols? Idols were a dime a dozen and they weren’t worth killing people either? Then there were those rumors of illegal “red mercury” mines, but that couldn’t be true. Still stunned, scared of the bats, she sat on the floor of the cave. She at least she knew where she had seen this man, but the why still eluded her. A drip of water came from the ceiling and a sudden flurry of bats overhead brought here back to the real world. Why were these bats moving around? It is day time. What was that noise...

  1. Sam realized that the man who tried to kill her at the waterfall her was none other than the local Town Sheriff! How could she run for help when the law enforcement is already trying to kill you.
Thoughts of who she could run to help her , now were slim. Fear and panic start to take over her....."why didn't I just get a photograph down by the river?' "Why didn't I stop halfway through the extra long hike without anyone around." Sam quietly lays down, still shaking from the gunshots noise.
Anymore of this and I won't be able to make it..... she is still, quiet yet hears some voices.
Just then, she looked up and saw ....
  1. [following the time line] ...a contortion in the rocks on the ceiling. Stealthfully, she maneuvers her body along the formation. She thinks to herself that the worst that could happen now is that she would be stuck here for hours. She still has room to slide her lithe body. Water is trickling underneath her. Sam focusses her mind. She moves like a worm, inching along. She sees more light, yet less room for her body. Sam grabs at an outcrop to steady herself. It gives way, and she quickly uses her back to hold herself in place.

As time stops, the loosened rock makes its way down her body and the crevice below her. She can hear a thud. Before long, muffled voices. Sam draws on her inner being; pulling herself up just a little higher. She wiggles through this "new" opening. "You can do it, " as she screams within herself.

Sam is now on a bit of a ledge and no longer in the cave, though still obscured from sight. She listens and waits. She gets as comfortable as possible and allows herself to fall asleep...

wow @cryptick @nashwildcard @jasonchick @clove71 @aedroberts you guys really got into this! Thanks sooo much for contributing! Love reading all of your styles and imaginings!

Thank you @satchmo for getting the ball rolling and for the nice shout out. I added to the story last night but it is at the bottom of the page. I hit reply to the post with the most recent time stamp.
Thank you, @cryptick @jasonchick @clove71 @aedroberts it has been fun writing with you. I haven't written in a very long time.

We will be doing these more and more ;-)

Well, thank you @satchmo for being the catalyst and initiative taker. Please feel free to contact me through my website or DM on Steemit chat and we can corroborate for future endeavors.

One thing I noticed is that as comments were entered it automatically renumbered them. My first post I had numbered as 3. three and then it went to one 1. I noticed that Jason and put a dot in front of the number and was then able to number it three 3. Both Clove71 and aedroberts had ones also. Given how good they write I know they can count, so they had the same problem I did. I don't know what is causing this bug or feature, but it sure made it hard to number them in order. In the future we may need to number differently or start with on non numerical character.

Sam could sense the men already, she could feel them catching up on her.

Her feet; trembling,
Skin; sweating profusely,
Heart; panting heavily like a great thunder storm.

'Alas I am done for..."

She would have reached for her phone to call someone but it was in her bag pack miles away,
She would have cried for help maybe someone (just) anyone would save her but...

"this will only give out my location to those who hunt me." she thought.

Towards the echoing voice, she staggered.. .
Hope to be saved by what seems to be just a voice. At least for now.
