Drawing Contest, Remembering my Childhood : Rosa Doll

1990, a poor USSR country. I'm a 3 year old shy girl. I have some basic toys but none of them is my favourite. And one perfect day my parents give me Her — a big soft doll with pink hair (it was made from the crochet thread). I think my eyes told everything — She has become my favourite doll from now on and forever! I’ve named her Rosa (because of the hair color, of course).

1992, Ukraine, now an independent country. Still poor, still ruined. My parents remind me to play with Rosa carefully because it is a very expensive toy, it costs an arm and a leg. I don’t know how they could get Her, but somebody brought Rosa from Germany (almost illegally!)

1995, I’m a school girl, I have Barbie now. But guess what? I love my Rosa more. Mom proposed to wash Her in our old washing machine (non-automatic) — during five years Rosa became dirty. We were afraid of spoiling her with washing. But it was ok, the doll hadn’t perish or faded.

1997, I'm 10 y.o. “Mom, where’s Rosa?!” — “Sweety, I packed her into a plastic bag and put it in the closet, I thought you were adult enough and didn’t want to play with Rosa anymore”. — “No, mom, let me take her out. I still sleep hugging Her”.

2020, nowadays. “Hello, mom, can you talk now? Do you remember the color of the stripes on Rosa's dress?” — “They were blue, sweetie. Why?” — “I knew it, blue! I remember! Just need to draw Rosa, mom, don’t ask me why”.
