HISTORY you did not know - TRIPALIUM or how "torture" became "working"

The origines of that word is very ancient. Back From Julius Caesar. But let's pass this century to go straight to the XIe century.

In old Spanish words you find “trabajo” that means work, and it comes from the verb “trabajar” that means "to work" and this word comes from the Latin “tripaliare“.
Tripaliare is a derived word from “tripalium” which meant “three sticks”. All of this words refer to suffering...
A tripalium was a yoke made with three sticks which were tied to slaves to beat them as a way of punishment.

Back then they used the word “tripalium” for activities that implies physical pain. Most of the population worked in farming.
They had to do physical efforts as much as at the end of the day, people would feel as if they had been beaten. Torture. Like said above... You can find a similarity between another old word also used today which is "labor" that means work and giving birth. Both of them are painful. Torture.

In the XVIe century, it finally became the word as we all know it, work.
To designate the action of "carrying on an activity for the purpose of earning a living"; At the same time, the word work has taken on the ordinary meaning of "regular activity allowing subsistence" (subsistence!!!) and "occupation", while continuing to designate an effort that is made to accomplish a task.
