RE: Definitions, Confusion and Chaos - The Power of Consciousness (Pt.8)

in #words8 years ago

Words definitely matter. I seem to remember that in Orwell's 1984 one of the ways of keeping people confused was to limit their ability to express their thoughts via the annual elimination of words from the dictionary.

The idea was that by removing words whole concepts could eventually be eliminated along with certain forms of thought.

Even if people did not all think verbally they would need to translate their thoughts into words in order to spread them to others.

It was very clever one might even call it prescient.

Yup, I have that in an older post linked in the the content of this article. Added it to the bottom of this post again now. Thanks. Take care. Peace.

reminds me of an argument I had with a statist the other day. He didn't understand when i said forcing anyone to do anything against their will is wrong. He said that it's ok to use force if someone is attacking you. had to explain how that's self defense but he kept saying i was wrong. He was using the scientific use of the word force as in an exertion of some kind. I ended up just saying ok... lets not use the word force. "It's never ok to make anyone do something against their will. it's always wrong to be the aggressor.
