Milling Sycamore
I have had these punky old sycamore slabs for a few years so I decided I would put one of them to use for a frame saw I want to make.
I am using a ryoba for now.
It has some pretty nice grain sawn on the quarter.
I got 4 or 5 nice 4/4 boards out of it.

No, I am planning on making a frame saw.
I had a saw like that but I burnt the motor up. Amazing quarter grain. Sycamore is beautiful. Mentioned in the Bible as a symbol of divinity. Ought to make a good strong saw. I will be waiting for the pix I hope you post ;)

Man that looked like hard work? I used to use a lot of sycamore but hardly anyone stocks it any more because it needs specialised drying and storage. Getting pure white boards is really tricky now. I like the figure on yours, I don't think I have seen sycamore quite like that , may be because it is from the states.
I think you also call it london plane over there, right, or maybe maple? This is american sycamore, or maybe Arizona sycamore, not sure. No special drying for these slabs. Twisted, checked, spalted and punky. Surprise I even got a few boards from it.
They are all from the acer family I think. English sycamore is snow white and has to have the ends sealed and then needs to be stood upright. I thought yours looked like london plane , which is a bit different. I made some wall panelling with quartered london plane that was framed in oak. It looked like fire when it was finished. I will try and find a photo at some point.
