Theme: COMMUNICATION IN MARRIAGE
Text:
“His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb. Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.” - John 16:29, 30.
Comment:
Communication in some form is essential to social interaction. Without communication, people cannot intereact with one another. While communication and interaction are essential, communication must be reciprocal i.e. it should be a two-way traffic. In the text for today, we could see that the disciples were happy that they understood what Christ was saying. It was by virtue of the clarity of the charge given to them they were able to carry out what was required of them by God's grace.
One-way communication does not constitute interaction. In the text it could be seen that the response of the disciples showed that communication had taken place. Husbands and wives must influence each other on the psychological level although the influence may not be equal. Effective communication can serve to bring greater cohesiveness between man and wife. Any situation that limits communication prevents interchange of knowledge and experience between husband and wife and strengthens the dividing lines in the union.
The Almighty God has shown us the need for His people to have written as well as oral communication. He himself was responsible for the composition of the Ten Commandments written on stone tablets. (Exodus 31:18) This is communication – a divine one at that. Also, by means of divine inspiration a number of faithful men were moved to write down the words of God in the Holy Bible. These are of immeasurable benefit to us today. Once we have understood the writings, we respond by way of putting what the words say into practice for our benefit by God’s grace. – 2 Timothy 3:16,17; Romans 2:13; Luke 6:46.
