Code Update: Witness FollowBTCNews is Running Soft Fork 0.22.2
This post is a quick update to let the Steem community know that we are running Soft Fork 0.22.2 .
A big hello, and long time update for everyone! We aren't big posters, except when there is an important announcement about our projects or about Steem governance that would benefit from our statement. This afternoon, we — along with the current consensus witnesses— deployed a temporary soft fork, and wanted to let you know about the change.
For the most part, absolutely nothing in the base blockchain code and in the day to day Steem experience has changed. Please check out this community statement from the witnesses that goes into more depth on this soft fork.
This is a temporary code update, meaning that it can and very likely will be changed in the future. There are lots of things happening in the Steem ecosystem, and our support of this soft fork comes solely from a place of helping Steem realize its goal of better decentralization. We look forward to seeing more from our community coders (this is, in fact, fully community coded and exceptionally tested, which is very exciting!) and from the Steemit Inc team, who look to be in a great spot for funding and support via the TRON foundation.
The most important thing to me, and also to @crimsonclad, is that the Steem blockchain remains secure and continues moving towards its potential as a leading decentralized solution.
There will be lots to come in the weeks ahead, and we will better understand what's in the future for Steem, Steemit Inc, and the wider community. We are in support of this reversible if necessary code update. It is very likely that no transactions will be made that will fall into the code's purview. We know that Steem governance is meant to reflect the wishes of the wider populace, and this code update for us represents a chance to look at longstanding issues with the Steem blockchain that can be addressed again by all of the members of the ecosystem, new and old, developer or content creator, investor or company. Now is the time for your voice, your votes, your excitement, and yes, even your concerns: these are all the things that go into healthy dialogue and forward progress.
As always, we're here to answer your questions, address your thoughts, and talk more with you about the future of Steem. Thanks for all you do.
